My 2.26 asscher ring project is stalled
14.gif

As you may remember, my hope was to have the 2.26 set in the Daniel K baguette halo setting--no dice as he only sets his own asschers. GOG was good enough to do a search for me on available ~2c asschers from DK, but unfortunately none of the asschers was as good as the 2.26 and cost more.

Another option was to have a local setter install the stone into a custom made setting. After numerous phone calls and e-mails, no response.

Third option was to have a designer work up setting plans suitable for a benchman to use. No concrete replies other than a willingness to do the job, and a fee stated 2 weeks ago. Since then, no response.

Fourth option was to have the 2.19 asscher from DBOF set in a DK setting. Storm commented that it wasn''t up to the quality of the 2.26.

What a bummer!!!!!!

Any suggestions??????

Is it time to wave the white flag (surrender), and forget the whole project for now?

I''m so sorry!! If I were you, I would just keep trying to find a benchperson to do a custom setting for the 2.26. Have you contacted WF? Or maybe just throw it in a temp setting for now?

here's what I think. either keep the 2.26 and find a different setting, one that you could easily find a jeweler to make for you or one that doesn't require purchasing the center or...just get the DK and be done with it. I can't imagine any DK asscher being a dog and wink recently saw DK asschers in Vegas and said to him they all looked very consistant and beautiful. for the average consumer it will be plenty perfect enough.

I personally would keep the larger stone and find a different setting. You have a "kickin" stone already. Go and try on a bunch of different styles and see what really speaks to you. No reason to get down over a setting you've never even seen and can't be 100% sure you'd even like.

Thanks Rascal and mrssalvo....I have been looking at different setting designs, but most tend to look like e-ring settings and not appropriate for a RHR. I have yet to find a step cut halo setting around any style at all and I have looked in many many stores.

I realize that probably any Daniel K asscher is great, and actually found a dealer close to home who carries the DK line but had no asschers of any size to show me.The prices are ridiculously high here as well.

As far as putting the 2.26 in a temp setting, any ideas?

do you not like 3 stone rings? i don''t think they look like engagement rings unless you want them too by wearing them on the left hand with a wedding band. 3 stone kinda says RHR to me. I wouldn''t do a temp setting. chances are it will stay there for a lot longer than you''d like. I honestly don''t know what else to tell you

I would call WF about an Adwar setting for a 7.5 by 7.5 square. Personally, I''d go with the Adwar Daniel K split crown-- or if that was too delicate and e-ring like... then the Daniel K split shank copy. In a heart beat. But adwar does have other nice settings-- designer copies many of them. For 7.5 by 7.5 squares or cushions even would work if the setting was the right style (not a halo).

On This page third row is a nice split shank one of those might work for a stone your size... look through the catalog. That''s what I''d do.

I have a thread on the Daniel K split crown/ shank rings... there are pics posted of the actual rings... set with asschers. Looks great. I''m actually considering the split crown as an alternative to my setting.

How about this setting? I know it''s quite a bit different from the Daniel K, but I think it''s pretty as well...and since Lockes is willing to set diamonds not purchased through them, it might worth a try to get a quote...what do you think? That way, you can keep that fabulous GOG asscher!

Gypsy...I remember your picture of the DK split crown and loved the style, but wouldn''t I run into the same prob with a GOG asscher and a DK split crown setting as I did with the DK bag halo design?

mrssalvo....You certainly raise a good point when saying that the temp set might hang around longer than I might want.

Thanks cutey.....That''s a gorgeous setting and a variation of it (all baguettes) in the halo was one I also considered.

Thanks for telling me that Lockes will set GOG diamonds.

I have been in contact with them twice about that setting, but got no response. Maybe the third time is the charm?????

Don''t hold me to the fact that Lockes will set a GOG diamond. All I know is what I''ve read on PS, and it seems like as long as the stone is up to their standards (determined by reviewing the GIA / AGS certificate), they will agree to set a stone you have in your personal possession.

See Matadora''s thread...and I think there are a couple of other ladies in the process of working with Lockes currently as well.

I don''t think I''ve seen anyone on PS inquire about this particular Lockes setting...but it''s worth a try to ask. Just my 0.02...especially if you want to keep that GOG stone.

How about calling them. You say you''ve gotten no responses a couple times now. Curious to know if you''ve actually spoken to them. Emailing is one thing but with the setting you want which is very detailed, it''s always best to call.
2.gif
Good luck.

Isaku, it''s a copy. Of the Daniel K split crown, split shank. No custom cut traps... no trap halo. And Adwar already makes a copy. Precast to save you $$-- IF they make on to fit a 7.5 square. Even if they don''t... custom.

Your problem with custom was that no vendor had done a trap halo before. If your not doing a trap halo and your doing pave-- what''s the problem? Quest and WF and The Art of Pave Leon (did you see Pokey''s ring) have all done pave... and done it well. Have it down to an art. So... I would think your reservations would be removed. Heck Isaku-- Leon''s already one a split shank copy.

Hi kaleigh...Yes I did phone twice and talked to a rep whose name I can''t recall right now. She promised twice to get back to me but never did.

isaku, i saw over on DT on 6/16 you said you were getting the 2.19 DBOF...so i thought this was already done.

thritto on waving the white flag on this one...imo you know your options...please post finished pictures of whatever you decide.

That was my last ditch attempt.

White flag here too.

Isaku,
I went to Jacob the Jeweler in Manhattan. He told me he WOULD sell a DK setting seperately. The price he quoted me was reasonable for DK-about half the retail price but still twice the price of a generic. Maybe give his store a call and ask. If that doesn''t work then maybe the 2.19 is your easiest solution.

Is this the same Jacob the Jeweler who was arrested last week on drug and money laundering?

UH OH!!!!!!!!!

I think I would be calling the vendor that gave you a price quote. Maybe they are waiting to hear from you or get the go ahead and a deposit from you. It would seem very strange that none of your contacts is calling you back. If you really want the GOG stone then you will just have to continue to beat the bushes to find someone to make a setting for it. If it all seems impossible, then maybe buying the DK ring is the best way to go.

Good luck!

I phoned Jacob the Jeweler after reading SquareCut''s post. They were very friendly and within 15 minutes had a price to set the 2.26 in the DK setting. The wait time for the stone to be sent away, setting made and completed ring returned was 3 weeks. This was the kind of action I was looking for, but was surprised by as well.
9.gif

Then I read the very informative link that was sent and immediately called back to get clarification. Yes, it is true I was told by the rep, but don''t worry, everything will work out. Right!!!!! Once again, the old adage "if it sounds too good to be true...."
7.gif

However, all the air caused by the waving of surrender flags seems to have things moving. I was e-mailed late this afternoon by the would-be Canadian setter and told she''d have a price by 10 am Monday and the US designer who will have sketches by Monday as well. Sounds kind of reversed, but I understand it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you all you intrepid PS''ers for the heads-up on Jacob and the violent flag-waving awakening the procrastinators.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your beautiful wedding set!! That gorgeous RB with the pear sides is definitely drool-worthy and the band complements it perfectly.
30.gif

You''re right in saying that I changed my mind about having Quest do their first trap/baguette halo setting using the 2.26. I knew and saw that they did great pave halo work, but could find no pics of the type I wanted and I didn''t want to have to send it back and forth across the border for tweaking.

Again, congrats on the gorgeous rings, and all the best to you and DF.

isaku,
i'm confused as usual

. Can you clarify for me, will Jacob the Jeweler sell the DK or not?

glad the ball is finally rolling on getting some answers though
