Maybe this will help ... PRETTY RING!!!
Decodelighted - Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I was so impressed and excited to open the tread and see the ring posted. I''m embarrassed to say how long my husband and I tried to post it ourselves

Of course, I now think that you are brilliant!

HA! I better post it again, since this thread had jumped to the 2nd page ...

Sometimes it''s slow on Sat nights - but I hope other Asscher folks will weigh in soon. I can''t think of anything negative anyone would say about this beauty though! It''s stunning!

Agree with what you said earlier about Asschers being a private joy for the owner more than a "flashy" stone. That''s *exactly* why I love them! Generic, Antique or Royal!

Bit further back ...
typical RA in a very classic and beautiful setting.
Pricey but very pretty and 2ct size is a great size for an RA.

OhMyGosh, frozengirl....it''s magnificent! (why am I not surprised?

)...and that classic mounting with baguettes is the perfect way to showcase that stone. Doesn''t get much better...

Asschers......a private joy for the owner....
I agree with this so much. I''ve been in possession of my mom''s asscher for many years now, and I still spend way too much time gazing into and enjoying its depths...

Let us know if you decide to go for it!

How could you not go for it???? It''s absolutely gorgeous!!!! Congratulations!!!

I agree that it''s an expensive item -- however, I don''t agree that you''ll find a comperable piece for less $. So, IMO, don''t let this one comment fuel the "but could I do better for less" ember that''s almost certainly flickering -- because it''s such an important purchase.

Even if you chose the $23K generic asscher Strmdr showed you ... plus a 3K setting ... plus the shipping back & forth etc ... seems like the "Royal" asscher look & branding would be worth AT LEAST 2K difference. Not to mention the whole "love at first sight", "bird in the hand" kind of issues.

Especially since we''re talking about an upgrade ... to ME, the splurge would be worth it!

p.s. -- please ignore the "thumbs down" pose in my avatar ... for this purchase I''m all "thumbs UP"

As usual, I agree with Deco and WIdget!

The ring is STUNNING and I don''t think the price difference is worth it to go searching elsewhere. Perhaps you could haggle a little bit with your local jeweler to make up some of the difference! (I kind of love doing this, although I know most people don''t.)

Wow-I absolutely love this ring-the diamond is absolutely gorgeous and the setting is perfect for it-I say DO IT! And once you do, please inundate us with pictures!

Thank you to all of you who have taken the time to offer opinions. It is very helpful and fun to read all the comments from those who have seen their share of asschers. I can tell from reading the countless posts on PS that this group is obviously very passionate about asschers and has an appreciation for this unique cut.

My husband and I (mostly me) are trying to take the weekend to think about this purchase. I''ll probably have him review the comments with me this weekend and then we can talk further about the ring. Obviously is is a major purchase for us financially and emotionally.

Any lovely or unusual settings, especially for asschers would be fabulous! We always love different settings especially for fancy shapes. If they have any one carat asscher there that catch your eye... can you snap a couple of set ones for me? I''m always looking for setting ideas for mine.
Gypsy - I checked at the jeweler, but they didn''t have any other asschers or settings. I guess it is good that I liked the setting it was in already.

You guys are so fast with the postings! As I was writing something else I noticed your comment. I think the price is as low as it will go. The ring actually started out as 38K so it has already been reduced significantly (10K).

I can''t wait to see what you decide!

PROPS ... you asked about those before ... people go crazy for inventive pix around here ... so, say you DO seize the RA ... it''s a great time of year for FLOWER SHOTS. Other frequently used "props": ice, sugar, bowls of candy, favorite figurines, how could I forget: PETS, leaves, fruit, veggies (Ha!) ... oh the list goes on.

BTW: your photo are pretty awesome for a 1st time bling-picture-taker! It''s hard to get all the steps of an RA to show up in a still shot - but you did it!

Well good work on the haggling already, then! I hope you go for it-it''s ridiculously beautiful and the price seems very good for a Royal Asscher. Keep us posted either way, though!

I have a question for the resident experts. The gemologist at the store said a couple things that I wanted to check out:

Faint fluorescence in an H color will make it appear more like a G or F.

The same person cuts all the RAs in Antwerp.

It''s a pretty widely held belief that some fluor can help the face up appearance of stones. Not that it can make "D"s look any whiter than "D" ... but in the G/H/I/J & up ... it can help. How MUCH fluor it takes to "help" is a subject of much discussion. I wouldn''t think "faint" would do much -- but it''s possible your "H" is already a "high H" ... closer to "G" than "I". My GIA graded "H" asscher appraised as a "G" color -- so its not uncommon to have a 1 grade range spread.

I hadn''t heard that the same *person* cuts all RA''s - but that doesn''t mean it''s not true. I do understand that one company holds the patent to that particular cut.

You may already know this, but Edward Asscher holds the patent on RA design. The design patent was issued in 2002 by the US Patent and Trademark Office. This type of patent is valid for 14 years from the date it was granted.

I'd knew the Asscher family had been the ones to get the new trademark on the "new" version of Asschers ... yet I thought some large co (Fabrikant??) had purchased the trademark from the Asscher family .. or partnered with them or something ... It's been a while since I was researching Royal Asschers so this is all super vague, possibly inaccurate memory!

Don''t know about the Trademark piece. A design patent is something different - prevents others from copying design for the term of the patent. I think Fabrikant & Salant Group is the distributor. The only reason I have been curious about all this stuff is because a family member is in the patent field.

Such intrigue!

I have never owned a Royal Asscher. However, I did own a 2ct asscher, with GIA I color. The only concern I would have with the diamond you are looking at is the color. You should be safe with H but I just wanted to let you know you may see a bit of warmth...and if that doesn''t bother you, then GO FOR IT! WHAT A FAB DIAMOND!

Thank you to all who shared their opinions on this ring. Last call for any other comments...

Gorgeous! I''m no Asscher expert, but I''m drooling over this!

Um...I think the pictures of this diamond ring are actually KILLING ME! It''s unbelievably beautiful! I can''t stand it! I love the Royal Asscher look-the steps are so perfect and there are so many! YUM!

I know I''ve already said this about 5 times, but my comment is: snap that baby up!

It''s absolutely stunning!!! I am a huge asscher lover, so don''t gush over ones I don''t love. This RA is a true beauty!! And the setting just compliments the stone and lets it be the star that it truly is. Ok if that''s not enough, I''ll buy it!!!
