Two questions:

1. I''m wondering what you guys think about putting a .70 - .80 asscher in a halo setting?? I know my girlfriend loves the halo look, andy my budget is pretty tight (although I''m considering expanding it even though it''ll hurt). Her ring size is a 5.5... any thoughts, and please be honest!

2. I know the look of the stone in person is the most important thing, BUT... what are your thoughts on the specs of this asscher?? I know the percentages can be important... please HELP! Thanks so much.

I would never advocate buying an assher without looking at an ASET or at least an Idealscope image before purchase. There are two reasons:

1. The contrasting patterns are really important and can't tell without images. Asscher's come in lots of different styles so you want to make sure it's something you like.

2. A lot of asschers don't really work even though they have the right #s. They can be too dark, not reflect enough light etc.

But your numbers look good. The one you have seems ot have a good table & depth percentage (usually want something like 58-63 & 67-72). The crown height % can also be important. Make sure its at least 11%.

However, the asscher you picked will look like a .5 carat round (asscher's loose a lot of spread due to depth), so I'm not sure how much you will be able to tell the patterns in person.

I LOVE halos on smaller stones. In fact, I prefer them on smaller stones. But just make sure it's a clean halo and not too busy or else it will detract from the beauty of your asscher.

I second what neatfreak and peridot said. I would add that you should make sure the diamond melee in the halo are small so they don''t overwhelm the center stone. Also make sure the metalwork is very delicate.

I have a .71 ct. Asscher with similar spread set in a beveled bezel set metal halo, on a size 4.75 finger.

I think it takes up a good portion of my finger, and because of the construction of the metal halo, the diamond appears to gain a ton of spread.

Ditto, I would keep the halo thin, under 2mm if possible.

Thanks for all the responses so far - Lauren I''m wondering if you have any hand pics so I could see your gorgeous ring on your finger? Any idea how thick the metal halo is around the stone? Thanks!
