I saw this picture over at Vespergirl's Bling thread & had to show you ... it shows the 'Asscher Deep Pool Glow' that you may be mistaking for the effects of fluorescence.

See -- the Asscher cut is like a mirror -- reflecting what ever it's facing ... in outdoor shots & the outdoor environ -- it's THE SKY -- which happens TO BE BLUE. The side stones aren't facing exactly up -- they're at an angle so they won't reflect the same hue -- also, they're smaller -- smaller MIRRORS -- see ... even stones the exact same color & level of fluor can appear slightly different depending on how they're set and where they are.

Not sure what's happening with your ring -- but seeing this pix gave me an AHA moment -- if you've only had the ring a few weeks you might not be used to how it 'works'.

Just a thought!

you are SO right... listen to this... so I'm in my car with my hand on the steering wheel and the diamond is so marine blue green - it's crazy. And I'm trying to decide if I should call the jeweler, tell my fiance, etc... Okay, so you know how on your car windshield the top is a different color??? Guess what has been reflecting into my ring?? THAT MARINE BLUE SUN SHIELD COLOR THAT IS ON MY WINDSHEILD!! I feel like such a dope!!! YOU ARE SO NICE to try to figure it out for me!!! It's been driving me crazy!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Geez!! I'm so relieved you have NO idea!!! I didn't know about the whole mirror effect. I love this ring!!! I'll post pictures of it with the wedding band I just bought last weekend soon. A delicious french cut diamond band!! YUM!!

Thanks again - I really, really, appreciate it!! :)

my pear in the avatar does the same crazy blue thing when I''m driving. it is Strong blue fluorescent, though. what fun!

I saw *another* asscher pix in this thread today that has the SAME EFFECT going on ... the blue sky or blue something reflecting. Check it out! Wild!

Anyway - I''m glad to have helped. I remember when I was first getting used to my Asscher I found all sorts of crazy effects in there I didn''t anticipate. I *too* couldn''t decide at first if it was *wrong* or *weird* or just Asschery. After viewing alot of asschers & getting to know mine -- I''m confident it''s just what Asschers do.

Some folks decide Asscher aren''t for them after all -- me, I love mine more & more every day!

CANNOT WAIT to see that french cut band ... I was eyeing one of those for a while myself!

here is a picture so you know what I''m talking about. thanks all. :)
I don''t know anything about fluor. and didn''t read the whole thread, but your ring is gorgeous!

Thanks Old-Fashioned girl!!! I think it''s gorgeous too!!!

Here is a crude picture of it with my new French Cut wedding band. It''s a retangle diamond then a round diamond - one right after the other. I can''t wait until we get married in August so I can wear it every day!!! I''ll post some more pics in the Show Me The Ring folder as soon as I figure out how to work my new camera.

Thanks again everyone for your help! SO glad I didn''t contact the jeweler or tell my sweetie!! Have a great weekend!!!

Personally, I don''t want a diamond WITHOUT flourescence! I think they have a certain magic :)
YOUR ring is one of the most beautiful I''ve seen - and if you don''t like it I definitely think you should get rid of it. I''ll send you my address ......

OH MY ... your set is GORGEOUS! We need, like, a ZILLION more pix! It such a delicate combo ... sometimes the proportion of the traps to the center Asscher can overwhelm it ... but yours is so SPOT ON ... and the thin, sparkly band is just the perfect complement.

Well-played!

wow, you have such a beautiful set, I really love your wedding band as well. Gorgeous!!!

Where did you find the SAH-WEET french cut band?? Is it an online dealer or a local store? It''s *so* pretty!

Your band is lovely but...I thought French cuts were little square stones...yours looks like baguettes and round? Or am I not seeing it clearly? In any case, it looks very pretty and delicate!

What a happy ending!

I''m so glad that you are keeping your ring- it''s just beautiful!

At 23rd Street jewelers in Santa Monica. All the girls in there are so helpful. I tried a larger diamond band too but it just overwhelmed my engagement ring. They convinced me on the thinner band and I''m so glad they did. I''m thrilled with the overall look. Thanks!!

The stones are retangular and round but french cut. I think they can be different shapes - the most common being the square. Anyone wanna chime in with more info?? I'll try to post more pics next week. Thanks for the compliment!!

I WANT THAT BAND!!

Seriously. Love that set. And the band. Did I mention that I want that band?

You know what they say about copying and flattery? I am seriously considering copying your set.

What are the dimensions on that asscher of yours? And what is your finger size? And ... um... where'd you get that setting?

Thanks Gypsy!! Not sure of the actual dimensions of the Asscher but it is 1.20 with a 58% table and 68% depth. The side trapezoids are .15 each and I designed the setting with the jeweler. I wear a size 6. Like I said, I''ll try to post more (better) pics tomorrow.

Hmm. I wear a size 6. And I bet with a 68 depth... your at about 6 x 6. Which is what the spread of my asshcer is. This is definitely worth investigating. THANKS... can''t wait for more pics.

I think it would be a great look for your Asscher, Gyp. It''s SUCH a gorgeous set. I love how the wedding band has just a subtle texture from that distance ...not matchy-matchy yet seemingly PERFECT together!! It''s classic yet delicate w/o being fussy.

Yeah, it really IS a lovely set. I love when they''re not so matchy-matchy. I had this nutty saleswoman in Tiffany''s who refused to show me EC and Lucida eternity bands because SHE felt that I should have rounds to match my center stone. I was like WHAT??? I like the subtle contrast of this set alot. Do you know the width (mm) of the band? It looks quite thin, like under 2mm....?

My engagement ring band is 3mm wide so I'm thinking that the band is 2mm or 1.5mm. I tried on the 3mm version of my band and it was just too much. This looked so much better - it has nice movement (just that make sense?). I'm definitely not a "matchy match" kind of gal. To me, this combo looks antique which is what I was going for. Thanks girls!

Thanks decode - you''re sweet! AND a super sleuth!!!

I love your ring! My sq emerald has strong blue flor and it very noticable. I like it in most cases.....I think mine is much stronger than yours looks in the pic...
