Have you guys ever seen an asscher cut set with prongs at a north, south, east, and west direction? I have before and it looked great but I can''t find it anymore. Thanks to everyone who has helped me with the prong ideas. It has made me love the asscher even more! :)

Hello again everyone!
I found a diamond through Whiteflash but I was wondering if I could get your opinion on the specs. I ordered another diamond before but the table was too big and there was hardly any sparkle to the stone. I have attached the GIA cert, so please tell me if you think this diamond is worth purchasing. Thanks so much!

Here are the specs:
Asscher 0.88 F VS2
GIA
EX Polish
EX Symmetry
66.7% Depth
61% Table
5.42x5.38x3.59
$3351 Wire $3418 CC

It won''t let me attach the GIA cert for some reason...I don''t know why.

The girdle on the stone is thick, there is no florescence, and there were no comments about it.
I am sorry I can''t attach it...I don''t know why it won''t.

What do you guys think based on that??

worth getting in for some pictures based on the info.

I think the info looks good too but I am looking at and am about to purchase another stone from my jeweler who is making my setting. It is a .83 F VS2 GIA cert for $3150. The stone looks great, but I would like to get something a little bigger. Whiteflash does not have the stone in stock and if I decided to not purchase it, I would have to pay $50 to have it sent back. I would have to pay that just for them to take some pictures of it. I don''t know what to do! Help!

Just wanted to say that you are not paying the $50 for them to take pics - you are paying to ship it back to the supplier. The supplier pays for it to go to WF and if you don''t want it, you pay for it to go home. WF takes the pics and IS etc for free.

Also wanted to say I CANNOT believe that people could call an asscher a princess. I''m amazed.

OK everyone...I got the cert for the stone that I am planning on getting from the jeweler:

Report Type: GIA Diamond Dossier®

Date of Issue: March 21, 2005
Laser Inscription Registry: GIA 13963221
Square Emerald Cut
Measurements: 5.08 x 5.08 x 3.63 mm
Carat Weight: 0.83
Color Grade: F
Clarity Grade: VS2
Depth: 71.5 %
Table: 57 %
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Culet: None
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: Faint
Clarity Characteristics: Crystal, Cloud

I am worried that the depth on the stone may be too much. I need help!

I do not know if I should go with that stone or the one from Whiteflash with these stats:

Asscher 0.88 F VS2
GIA
EX Polish
EX Symmetry
66.7% Depth
61% Table
Girdle: Thick
Florescence: None
5.42x5.38x3.59

Thanks in advance!

I think 1/2 the reason asscher's are so rare is they're really hard to shop for. You need pictures. (Not just a photograph but an Idealscope image or ASET image as well)

Some asschers are dark/black in the center when you look directly at them, some have narrow steps, some have wide. Some don't have much of cut corners, others have huge cut corners.

Without an idealscope or ASET image, you have no real way of telling which areas of the diamond will be dark.

Your jeweler's price is not unreasonable, so you have to ask yourself if you want to go through the long hard search online.
Hopefully, your jeweler is understanding and can wait the extra two weeks.

The easiest option is to see if whiteflash, good old gold, james allen, or excel diamonds have any asschers in stock that you like. This might be an option, though may be out of price range?

Good luck!

its a bit deep id want a bit of a discount but some of the best of the old cut asschers are even deeper so it could be kicken.

Thanks for your opinion. Besides it being a little deep...which upon seeing it till looks pretty good, is there anything about it that does not look like a good diamond, like the florescence?

I am so confused with all of this stuff. I just want to get the best stone possible.

OK I''m not an Asscher person. I like them but know NOTHING about how they should be cut.

That said the Fluor is fine. Faint will not cause you any problems. Some of use prefer at least Med Blue Fluor. So no worries on the Faint.

Good luck!

i just went through the whole buying and setting an asscher thing so i know how you feel! these are the numbers on what i went with and then how i set it...

GIA cert
Square Emerald Cut
5.72 x 5.65 x 3.82
1.06 carat
L color (i seriously never notice it)
VS1 clarity
Depth: 67.6%
Table: 72% (actually quite large for an asscher)
Girdle: Medium to Thick
Culet: none
Polish: VG
Symmetry: VG
Flour: none

from what i have learned about fancy cuts like asschers, they tend to have a higher depth and face up smaller than something like a round brilliant. when i first got my ring, i had it set in a simple lucida like setting, it looked pretty small to me and it didnt give me that asscher look i wanted so i had it re-set into a bezel diamond halo which really emphasized the octagonal "asscherness" to me.

WOW that looks totally different. I really love the new setting it makes your stone look much more like an Asscher, which I know it is...but the prongs of the first setting really covered up the corners too much.

Obviously settings can do alot to enhance the Asscher cut.

thats what i thought as soon as i got the first ring! the corners on my stone arent huge to begin with and i hated that they were covered up! the jeweler allowed me to trade up my setting and i asked his opinion on how to enhance the shape, he suggested the bezel with the halo since it would outline the octagon and not cover any corners, i love it! i seriously could not be any happier with it!

Your new ring is gorgeous! That is very close to what I am doing! I am having the pave diamonds in an octagonal halo just like that...it will make my asscher really pop out, I think. I am having mine bezel set as well. I am having the pave actually slant down at a 45 degree angle so it will make the stone stand up a little and the pave will basically look the same from the top view of the ring as it will from the side. Do you have any side views of your ring, asscher halo??

Thanks,
Ashley
