What a great question and answer! I never thought to ask this, but so glad it's been asked. I bought my 1.01 E VS2 from Leon for $5100. I felt like that was a great and very fair price for such a well cut beautiful stone and it's cool to compare that to the list.

Actually Dave - the carbon footprint of a volcanoe that comes from at least 100 miles below the earths surface has a huge cost. 1000 times that of the BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

I made some mistakes in those estimates - I adjusted them a bit. Of course this is just a bit of fun - please onlt use this for high school projects

One might quibble a little about the exact numbers, but for the point of illustration your post was very nicely done and quite kindly done. I hope our original poster makes good use of your information and takes one more salient fact from his question.

That would be that there are a lot of kind and helpful people in this industry who will take the time to respond if asked. Garry did it first and did it so well that there probably will not be a lot more coming in this thread, but wow, not a lot of industires that would lay out the "secret handshake" to just anyone who asks.
