Do they both do the same thing? If so, then why would I want to purchase both? Is one better than the other? How so? THanks!

an ASET is useful for fancies.

Correct - if you will only ever buy rounds then Ideal-scope is easiest to use.
ASET comes into its own with fancy non round shapes

Hello, n00b here! Have only been lurking a short while but really enjoying the expertise and ready advice on this forum.

I had the same question as rparker1998 so I thought I''d piggy back.

Can I just use an ASET instead of an IS then? (I''m hunting for an Asscher). It seems to provide the same and more information.

I know the guides talk about using the IS to weed out the crap ones and then the ASET to finalise your choice - is that because the IS is easier to use for weeding?

Yes
If I am going through say a parcel of 10 or more fancy cuts, I will pre-reject with the Ideal-scope, and then select with the ASET.
