I had never heard of mothers IRONING the breasts of their adolescent daughters.
It's said to reduces breast size, making their daughters less attractive to the boys.

Once again, it is the males who are ultimately to blame.
Men/boys who do not control themselves sexually blame it on the women/girls.
Yet it is the women who suffer.

I think it is the fathers who should be ironing the genitals of their sons.

This is just overwhelmingly sad. Why do these girls have to be tortured just because a man might have sexual interest in them. How about we teach men that it's their responsibility to treat women with respect and not just make girls as unattractive as possible. Men are not animals...they can control their urges.

But in terms of putting your child in any kind of pain, don't you think circumcision on male babies is painful? Yet that's common practice for many people. I draw the line in terms of what the intent is and whether it's medically safe, not whether the child is subjected to pain or not.

What is seen as abuse in Western culture is seen as survival in other cultures. While I don't condone this practice or FGM, I can't brand these mothers as terrible humans. They need to be taught alternatives to keeping their children safe and given the tools to change their cultural paradigm. Remember that a lot of these people are refugees fleeing horrific circumstances and living in squalor. Israel is trying to do something at least about genital mutilation. A step in progressive direction, and I am very supportive of this (not easy for Israel) decision as I have seen, and treated, the refugees from Guinea-Conakry who suffered from its consequences.
