This ring has an example of what is referred to as a Permanent Ring Guard.
The inner sprung strip expands to allow the knuckle through the shank opening, then relaxes to grip the flesh past the knuckle.
These devices are fabricated to fit and aren''t rocket science. We mill them until the metal is firm, then bend them into shape. The ring must be sized about a size larger than the knuckle size to allow for the addition of the Ring Guard. Once it is in place, the ring should fit the mandrel at the knuckle size.
They work very well, far better than sizing balls which can be pretty uncomfortable.
