Totally. Especially if you''re in a debate with that person and they correct your spelling to distract from the fact that they do not have a rebuttal.Date: 1/14/2009 2:09:22 PM

No, not at all.
What does bother me is when someone else posts a correction, which I find to be rude and unneccessary.

It only bothers me when it stretches to the point of making something difficult to understand. I figure that we all make mistakes from time to time in our typing, spelling, and/or grammar so I'm pretty forgiving about that, but when there are enough errors to make it difficult to understand a post, then it starts to bug me.
This is exactly how I feel.Date: 1/14/2009 2:11:18 PM

I mentally fix sentences and spelling errors. They always trip me up and I can't finish the sentence until I mentally correct the errors.

Are you bothered by spelling and grammar errors on a forum? Or do you just ignore and read through them?

Are you bothered by spelling and grammar errors on a forum? Or do you just ignore and read through them?J/K. Some errors drive me CRAZY and I want to correct people so they don''t continue to make the error in public. However, I am a terrible speller. So there''s that.

When people put the period or comma outside of the quotations, such as ''a lot'', or ''allot''. Totally bugs the crap out of me.
I certainly agree, though I've been guilty of this in the past. I always feel conflicted about it and rarely do it, but sometimes I just can't help myself. I don't mean any harm by it.Date: 1/14/2009 2:09:22 PM

Spelling doesn''t bother me but using the incorrect word (i.e., loose instead of lose, bear instead of bare) does bother me a TON. It shouldn''t, but it does.
Too much IM speak also bothers me greatly.

I think my own errors that I don''t catch before I post and then find later bother me the most! I''m a teacher so I come by it honestly.I''d be lying if I said spelling and grammar errors didn''t bother me at all, but we''re human and I think tend to think faster than we type. I find it hardest to read posts that use a lot of text/IM short cuts.
Yep, me too. And not because I don''t believe in/care about good spelling/grammar, but I do the same thing you gave an example of. I just have these stupid "brain blips" and type the wrong thing, or I just type a word wrong, and don''t catch it til it''s too late.Date: 1/14/2009 2:06:50 PM

Nope. Mostly because I''m a huge violator.
Just today I meant to say ''the guy that weighs 400lbs'' and instead I said ''the guy that ways 400lbs''
Steel, #2 is always correct. If the sentence is ending with the quote, the punctuation always goes inside.Date: 1/14/2009 2:20:55 PM

I always have issues when I am quoting. Which is correct?
1. Mary said ''no sugar before bed''.
or
2. Mary said ''no sugar before bed.''
I would use 1 because I have quoted and am now finishing my sentence. I would not use 2 as although I have finished the sentence in the quote, I have not finished the sentence which included the quote.

Yes, I always do number 2 as well (even if the quote is at the end of sentence) because I am mentally finishing the sentence. Plus I feel like it is easier for others to read. But I guess that is wrong!Date: 1/14/2009 2:20:55 PM

They bug me like crazy. I know they shouldn''t. But they do. I know not everybody is a spelling and grammar freak like I am, but oh my goodness does it bug me. I mentally fix sentences and spelling errors. They always trip me up and I can''t finish the sentence until I mentally correct the errors.
ETA: I do want to say, though, that unless somebody specifically asks for me to correct things, I merely wince inwardly and move on. I can''t stand self-righteous grammar and spelling freaks that have to correct everything.
