Are you a curious person?

I am curious but not noisy
That's why im on the internet
And im curouse about America and also the other places you all live

I had a corporal in the army who thought i was too curouse for my own good but superiors further up the ranks always encouraged my questions and answered nicely

I feel those who try to suppress our curiosity are threatened by it.

Oh me too!! Not only for fun though...we were poor and neglected so the encyclopedias were sometimes the only thing I had to read/do. I also read Dr. Spock’s parenting book which my parents somehow owned but either never read or learned from. I was somewhat confused because I thought it was written by the guy from Star Trek.

Do you remember those door to door encyclopedia salesmen? LOL I do. We owned every World Book, Encyclopedia Brittanica etc. Our entire finished basement was filled with these books. I loved it. I wonder what happened to them? While it is much easier now just looking things up on the internet there was something special about finding the book and researching that kids today don't do.

I am ridiculously curious, and also privately nosy. By privately I mean I will spend (waste?) much time delving into someone's personal details, but I will not spread any information I find and would never dox anyone. Many times it's just a procrastination game. In a forum someone might leave a crumb - I will chase it down to try to figure out who that person is IRL. I've been successful a couple of times here, much more so with some reddit forums. I think I would make a great detective.

I am curious on just about any topic. When I was a kid I used to read encyclopedia volumes for fun. I just wish I could remember half of what I've looked up!

Everyone always leaves off the second line of the proverb:
"Curiosity killed the cat...
SATISFACTION brought it back!"

My DH says I would make a great disaster consultant because I can immediately figure out every worse case scenario to every single situation.

I read the encyclopedias for fun too! And yes! Everyone forgets that second line to the curiosity killed the cat. Satisfaction ddi bring it back!

Yes, cannot sit through a “based on real life” movie without googling facts the whole time.

Yes. And I also like to see where the actors are now. For example we are rewatching Gilmore Girls (don't judge me I love that series so much lol) and I had to google where every single of the actors are now. I am curious like that. What are they doing? Are they married? Do they have children? Are they still acting? What charity work do they do? Etc.

Speaking of curious I have sat through 3 webinars now to keep an eye on various tutoring centres and find out what they speculate will be in the new OC and Selective Test (test for children to get into good schools that offer cheap education). It is going to be a long three years ahead but I feel like a super spy at this rate!

Not super spy. Rather you’re a super momma! ❤️

I read Dr. Spock's book too! My mom kept it in a closet in the bathroom. I guess keep it close at hand to reference when your kid is puking in the toilet?

Fun fact: my mom and Leonard Nimoy both lived in the same section of Boston at the same time. It was a neighborhood of working class immigrants called the West End. In the 1950s it was claimed by the city through eminent domain for urban renewal. Both my mom's and the actor's families were displaced.

Gosh-if you aren't curious you aren't learning, are you?
I hope to never get to the point of not being curious.

I find that one news article can lead me to researching issues and learning more about something in history that I knew nothing about. How can that be bad?!?!?
There is so much I don't know so I feel curiosity only improves my overall knowledge of all topics.

I think our ones all went to the tip (dump) when mum moved to Christchurch - one had to keep buying the updates or they sickly became out of date

When i watch international interviews from news or docos that are more than a year old i worry if the person now has covid :(2

Curious... I suppose? Certainly I want to know more about topics that interest me.

I don’t care to know much at all about topics that don’t interest me. I’m definitely not a generalist.

And I firmly believe that not everyone’s opinion matters equally. I will happily defer to expertise and authority: I don’t demand to be heard on subjects that I have no especial education in or knowledge about or professional experience with, and I really don’t care for people who do.

I don’t know where we got the encyclopedias...it could be my grandparents bought them (that may also explain the parenting book). They were World Book though. I sounded like Cliff Clavin half the time and I can still recall random facts that I have no recollection of where I learned them. I am quite sure it is from reading encyclopedias. it’s great for trivia games, lol.

Hmmm, I don't know. I am very curious about certain things, even nosey really haha. But then there are plenty of other things that I am not curious about. I tend to be interested in people-related things, for example, but not too interested in how things like machinery or technology work (just so they do work when I need them to).

Agreed. I am not so foolish as to think one can be an expert in everything. And I gladly defer to those with more knowledge about specific areas of study etc. When my AC breaks I call the HVAC repairman. I know he will fix it. Thank goodness for experts in each field! And I know to listen more than speak when we are discussing topics I know little about. One can learn so much of one just listens.

Aww that is great you have a mind to remember those facts. Yes we loved the World Book too. But I don't remember things like that. I wish I did. My dad and DH and sister always beat me at Trival Pursuit!

Same. While my DH has a thirst for learning how things work and why I just want them to work! LOL. I need my fridge and AC and internet. Just work. That is all I care about.

Agree on all points @Elizabeth35. When I am dead- that is when I will no longer be curious. Which brings me to the question is there life after death? I am very curious about that. Though I think I know the answer and it is a disappointing one. :/ I hope I am wrong though!

I always enveyed the Queen - not for her castles and jewles but the people and places she gets to meet and visit
When HM and her family on her behalf visit here they get to go to farms and factories etc
I just think that would be so cool
Im sure Prince Philip found it interesting and the Queen would be too polite to ever not be interested on such visits
Now days they seem to have them visit places that they have a direct intetest in like Camila and child literacy and woman's issues but back in the day the Queen would visit all sorts of places even pea canning factories

Yes - INTENSELY curious! Another one here that read encyclopedias for fun as a child. And like you, @missy, I'm deeply curious about people, including the little things like what their daily routine is, etc. - which DH totally does NOT understand or appreciate! - and I google all kinds of details about the people on whatever TV show or movie I'm watching. Oh, and I've adored Gilmore Girls from the first moment I saw it!

I find that the longer I'm here and interested in jewelry, I'm just as curious, if not more so, about why someone selects a piece or a setting - especially their engagement and wedding rings, because it is such an emotionally loaded choice. What motivated their choice? How much did lifestyle matter? How much was girlish dreams vs. practicality of everyday wear? Did they stay satisfied with their choice? How do they feel about the whole upgrade issue? On and on and on........

I don't think it's possible to be too curious - DH would disagree there - but I'm probably biased. ;)) I think the way to stay out of trouble there is to temper curiosity with a healthy understanding of, and respect for, boundaries!
