Are these prongs too high?

Hi! I am recently engaged and i have been having an issue with fibers getting caught in my prongs. My fiancé and i decided to take a look at the ring and noticed the prongs may be high? Also where the prong is engraved into so the diamond sits in the prong seems to be rough and maybe overley engraved (for lack of better terminology). I attached some photos so feel free to express your opinions and give me any advice on if it’s worth contacting my jeweler or if I am just overthinking it! Thanks! IMG_8229.jpeg

I don't know that they are too high as I am not sure what kind of prongs you wanted in your ring. However, the inside finishing leaves a lot to be desired and I would most certainly contact the jeweler. The snagging issue won't go away until addressed.

Do you have a top down view of your ring?

Fibers/lint getting caught is something many if us struggle with. Some people do indeed get the seemingly lint free prong experience tho.
Snagging is a different issue and can cause damage to the setting, increasing risk of loss of stone. Snagging is where I’d contact the jeweler.

I think this is personal preference? Aesthetics?

In previous threads members of the trade (iirc) consider fine finishing in this area to be considered loupe clean work- to a point in that it’s inspected/expected to be fine.
If the seat is fine and the stone is secure, and is equal to the jewelers typical work, not sure if it’s a workable complaint with that same jeweler ?

I can’t tell by your photos. Can a slip of paper be inserted between the prong and the stone’s crown?

thank you for your feedback back!

There is space for a slip of paper to be inserted between the prong and the stone’s crown. I think the reason is due to the height of the prongs being a tad too high and instead of curving around the crown of the diamond they stick more straight up.

Maybe this picture helps show it a little better. Not sure but i thought would add it just in case!

It appears the prong tips were not finished properly. Even if the diamond girdles are seated securely in the prong seat, the prong tips should hold firmly to the crown. I can see why they are catching on things. Poor workmanship I’m sorry to say. Personally I would not take it back to this jeweler for a second try.

The prongs themselves could have been finished a bit thinner or claw like but the bigger problem is the way they are finished on the inside. I would definitely seek a professional opinion with this ring and the setting of the diamond.

Congrats on your engagement and your diamond is lovely! Yes, I think that the prongs could be filed down to be more attractive and yet still offer security to the diamond. Also the workmanship is poor, so you may want to seek out another jeweler.
