Are these OECs well matched?

I've been collecting old stones to eventually make a 5-stone band. Just got these and I'm wondering if these are matched well enough for a ring. If I'm using my calipers correctly, the smaller one is about 4.26 by 4.27 and the larger one is 4.37 by 4.48. I can definitely see the difference side by side, not sure how noticeable it would be in a ring. Also, I plan to have them bezeled, if that makes a difference. There's also some difference in faceting, though I don't it'll be noticeable in that size. The middle stone is about 4.8 in diameter and the two smaller ones that I have loose are about 4.1-4.2 and very well matched. Please excuse the dirt in the pictures, I was handling the stones way too much. So what do you think? Would the size difference be an issue?

My other question is, is it worth getting the appraised? And if so, should I have them taken out of the settings or just wait until I'm ready to have them set and let that jeweler do it? Thanks!

To my eyes they work great in your line-up and the size difference seems to be a non-issue since they are not side-by-side - if you have them in your hands, though, I would trust your eyes and your instincts.

As to an appraisal, if it were me, maybe I'd have the ring made and then send it to David Atlas, who really knows antique cuts... or if it is to be an heirloom piece, I'd even consider sending the loose stones to EGL before the ring is made, and still have Mr. Atlas do the appraisal after the ring is made.

I think they look awesome!!

I collected slightly graduated OECs for my mum's five-stone over time too. The most important thing to me was that the stones had the same sort of character and looked good lined up next to each other - I think searching for perfect matches in size and facet structure is bad for the sanity with these genuine old cuts! The right settings (multi-prong, bezel) will definitely minimise the visual impact of slight size and roundedness differences, and I wouldn't worry about that at all with that pair.

This was my lineup (the two on the left are the endstones and the two on the right are the middle-stones) - graduating ~4.5mm to ~5.3mm

Thanks Yissie and Marymm! It's good to hear you guys think they're matched well! Yissie, your mom's 5-stone is terrific!

I'll definitely have the ring appraised once it's done, just wondering if there's a reason to appraise the stones beforehand. My worry about getting them unset is that they may get damaged, seems it would minimize the risk to have them taken out of the original settings by whoever will be making the ring but I'm not sure.

One more question, do you think for a milgrained bezel setting it would be worth going the hand-forged route or is that something that CAD/wax is better suited for?

I also think they look like they go together. Very similar in taste.

A & Y, nice job! If you don't mind my asking, where did you source your stones? Different places?

Thanks Anna! The three of mine you see here are from Ebay. The two other small ones that are not pictured are from DB. It took over a year to get them all, but I'm not in a hurry. If you're under time constraints, I wouldn't recommend it.
