Are the Inclusions going to be visible with the naked eye?

I was looking at buying this diamond from BlueNile that is right at my budget.

But as I look at the GIA report, I am concerned that the inclusions might be visible with the naked eye.
Since I can't look at the diamond in person, I am very hesitant to buy it.
Any advice??

Hi Ben!

First of all, it is possible there might be visible inclusions in a diamond of this size, shape and clarity grade. You cannot really tell by the plotting diagram of the grading report as to whether inclusions will be visible or not. You could see if someone at BN could look at this diamond and advise you if it is eyeclean or not, but you also need to know your own comfort level. If you don't want to see any inclusions at all close up, then you may need to go higher in clarity with this shape and size. But BN do have a good return policy if you wanted to take a look at this diamond - 30 days I believe. Also I don't know if this diamond is an in house stone, BN may have to call it in.

See this thread for info on eyeclean issues - clarity definitions

Also I notice this diamond has strong blue fluorescence, you might want to check that this doesn't have a negative effect on the diamond ( make it look cloudy in some lights) although this is rare, it is best to check.

I don't know about Blue Nile, but generally, if you're buying on line, you should be getting a discounted price. With that discount, I would bump it up to an SI1 and not have as much pressure on inclusions.

As far as all my research goes I would be concerned about the symmetry only being listed as Good on this diamond. I gather that Cushions are not as fiery as rounds or princess cut dimaonds as a generally rule so the symmetry is very important when buying one.

You have to also understand that to the untrained eye a diamond may look amazing while an expert may pick it apart. At that price point and that carat weight I would gamble and buy it. Make sure you have someone who can llok at the stone and give you an assessment. Likewise, I would do the sun light test and see if the stone blows you away in the light.

It all comes down to what you like and what moves you.

I'm not expert, but I say DO IT!!

From the prices I have looked at, the diamond looks like a good deal. I would like to go with a little better clarity, but an increase to SI1 (leaving everything else) would cost $20,268!!!!

If I backed off the color and cut a little, I could get it down to ~$15K, but that is still way over my budget.
That said, it makes me wonder why the price is so low compared to other diamonds in that range.

I e-mailed Blue Nile to see if they can offer any help.

Hi MP!

I just wanted to mention that apparently it is far more common to see symmetry as good in fancy shapes, and that generally other aspects of the diamond are more important to consider when judging it. I just mention this as I don't want our poster to think that this could be a real negative with this diamond, or miss out on others which may be great diamonds with good symmetry - hope you don't mind!

I think that in that color you are likely seeing a relatively significant discount for the strong blue fluorescence. Apparently strong fluorescence commands a slight premium in lower colors, and a discount at higher colors, which my stone search supported. I know that it''s already been mentioned but you would just want to ensure that the fluor doesn''t have a negative effect on the look of the diamond, either by way of cloudiness, or just your personal preference. Many people love fluor, but some do not, so best to be aware and check. If you''re a-ok with everything then it seems like a good deal!

I don't mind the flour, but I'm not the one who has to wear it.

I read the article http://lgdl.gia.edu/pdfs/w97_fluoresce.pdf and they said the the fluorescence wasn't that noticeable even if it was very strong.

I am going some older posts and seeing what others have to say while I wait for Blue Nile to get back with me.

The concern here is ( albeit rare) that a diamond with strong blue fluorescence may cause the diamond to look cloudy in some lights, that is why it is always prudent to ask the vendor if the diamond displays any negative effects. Many vendors with in house diamonds won''t have a diamond with SB which does have this affect, however I think especially concerning the amounts of money involved, it never hurts to ask.

Well, that was pretty fast...

Thank you for contacting Blue Nile.

The diamond stock number LD01069449, has had a visual performed on it and it is eyeclean, or free of any inclusions visible to the unaided eye. It has also had a fluorescence visual and it is not milky or hazy at all.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Kind regards,
