Are diamonds bought of the Internet more likely to be fashioned from stressed rough than diamonds bought in a jewellery store?

I know internet jewellers work to tight margins of profit and probably this is why they make their money but is there anything else underneath that exterior which customers should maybe think about?

I remember reading that a jeweller told a customer that the stones on the internet are there because B&M jewellers have had their pick and do not want to buy them.

Are the H&A cuts just a way to sell these diamonds, as these cuts are not as prevalent in B&M stores? I know it is a branding tool and a marketing tool but is there something else we do not know for e.g. are they cut from stressed rough and this is how they are sold by marketing the cut?

Just want to know or ease my mind in case I do make a purchase in the future.

P.S. I know many do not believe any strain in the rough diamond will affect the diamond after it is cut. Even if this is so, is there anyway to know if the diamond rough is different and if that makes the prices cheaper as well as low profit margins?

Pyramid, you've been researching diamonds long enough not to buy every Internet horror story, haven't you? Internet jewelers get their diamonds from the same place as B&M ones, and many Internet jewelers, as you know, are also B&M ones as well. Many Internet jewelers can sell at lower prices because they have lower overhead.

You've got to stop letting every two-bit ignoramus with a not-so hidden agenda make you forget everything you've learned in the last few years.

It seems to me that once it is cut its past life is forgotten. Almost nobody cares whether or not it came from strained rough. If it's a good buy from the wholesaler, you stock it (or drop ship it). You don't likely say "I'm an internet dealer, price point selling, and I want that cheaper strained rough to peddle please."

Then again, as margins get thinner and people jump dealers to save $100 on a $10,000 stone funny things might start to happen.

Thank you Hest88 and Rank Amateur. I am just a bit nervous and trying to cover my bets before I finally decide that I will eventually purchase my diamond of the internet.
