Are Crocs shoes really that good?

They are so popular and I am not really sure why. I heard they are comfortable because they are light in weight, but other than that, is it really supportive enough for walking?

I can''t speak to their comfort but I HATE how they look.

Ditto. I don''t care how comfortable they are - I refuse to wear them!

I have the flip flops and Mary Jane. If you count shopping in the mall for hours as walking, then they were still comfortable.

I have a pair to wear around the house-run to the mailbox, etc. While they''re super lightweight, I don''t find them to be all that comfortable. They don''t have much arch support and the rubber material is snot comfortable on bare feet, yet is sort of sticky on socks. I find myself walking out of them a lot. They''re also not good for kids because they pose a tripping hazard.

No.

And they''re simply butt ugly.

All styles.

Oh, and men despise them. I think DH actually shudders when he sees them, in the store or on feet.

I didn''t realize they were still that popular. I thought they were popular like, 4-5 years ago. I bought my dad a pair but he never wore them. My mom wears them to garden in. I have never owned a pair, I like flip flops for "comfy" shoes and that''s it. No Crocs, Uggs, or clogs for me, thanks!

I think that crocs are good for a quick slip on shoe, but not for going out, and like pajamas, shouldn''t be worn in public.

My FMIL cleans houses for a living, and used to wear crocs all the time, and is now having major foot problems because of the continued lack of support.

You're missing out Monnie! Danskos rock!

Crocs are hideous!

Wouldn''t wear Crocs if you paid me to do it.

Oh, and what are those little thingies that are sold that can be put into the Croc holes? Anyone know about those? ETA - just googled. . .they're "charms" for crocs.

A year or so back, my kids and I went to Nordstrom first thing in the morning to get them new shoes. While in there, a mom with four kids was digging through the little containers of those thingies for about 20 minutes and then left. Well, I cannot recall why, but the next morning we had to go back in and that same mom, again with her four kids, was there that time too, digging through the containers. It was beyond the most bizzarest (is that a word?) obsession I had ever seen.

You''re missing out Monnie! Danksos rock!

With you HH! I am on my feet all day everyday at work and LIVE in my danskos. Love love love! No Crocs though

I am a huge crocs fan. I have a lot of pairs and I wear them often. I love that they are lightweight and comfortable. I''m all for comfort! I don''t care that they aren''t the most attractive looking pair of shoes.

This skeeves me out! Not only is it gross to have partially bare feet in the kitchen, but it''s a health and safety hazard and violates all sorts of OSHA regs!

I have a pair of blue ones with sunflowers pins on them...
They aren''t that pretty, but when i clean or go to amusement parks, that''s what i wear...
They are comfortable enough for long walks but awful for people with no arch...

Speakng of Danskos, I found a brand that are even MORE comfortable than that...

Alegria

Super Comfortable and so cute!!!

Yep.

I hate the way they look, but they are easy for kids (even though I know there are said to be dangerous). My kids love the winter ones with the fur inside. My 5 yr old lives in the Mary Janes. My parents live in DE and I got a bunch on sale in October at the outlet for $4 a pair!

All of my friends know that I get violently angry when I see them on men in public, especially with socks! I have been known to make an outburst when out at happy hour with the girls when a guy wearing tan shorts, bright green crocs with socks strolled up to the bar.

I don''t really know where to start with that one. There are other types of crocs besides the ones with holes in them, so your ideas of partially bare feet in a kitchen are often unfounded. Also, between the risks of sharp objects, food, and hot oil (among other hot items) falling on feet, it would be really stupid to wear crocs with holes in them (I believe Mario Batali does it regardless, But I don''t think he actually spends much time in his kitchens anymore) because it''s dangerous.

I don''t consider crocs to be any different than wearing backless clogs into a kitchen, and that is done all of the time. So if you have a problem with backless clogs in the kitchen...you probably shouldn''t go out to eat.

I own about 5 pairs of the traditional "Cayman" styles, as well as a pair of flip flops. I tend to wear them as an everyday shoe, and I have to choose between my Danskos and my Crocs when I know I''ll be on my feet for long periods of time. 9 times out of ten, Crocs win. One helpful hint is that you should size down. I wear a 7.5 or an 8, and I wear a 7 in crocs.

And for the record, when I was selling shoes, and on my feet for 8+ hours per day, I wore Crocs. It was a great way to sell loads of them too.

They are flat out hideous. And no, they are not supportive enough for walking.

no, they are crap. i''m like 110 lbs and it doesn''t provide enough support for an 8+ hr day on my feet.

On adults= fugly.
On toddlers/younger kids= cute.

I have a pair for gardening but you will never catch me in them beyond the limits of my yard! My kids wear them though and they are super cute on them! My DS loves his "fuzzy crocs" the ones with fleece lining. My DD has small and narrow feet and her feet just swim in crocs, so she hates them! I would say they are a comfy for a little bit but not for all day on your feet kind of comfort.

Ditto the comments about them being fugly, no matter how comfortable they may or may not be. Though, I do have high arches and would guesstimate they would not be great for my own feet.

I see them, and will always see them, as gardening shoes (though I don't even own them for gardening!).

It amazes me to no end that people wear them out in public....particularly when paired with pajama/sweatpants (I apologize to anyone here who does....and I will add that I am not always dressed to the nines either when I am running errands, so there is fair game there!).

Like HollyS's own husband, my husband despises them too.

If only most people agreed with you on both counts; any shopping trip I take to my local Walmart (while I am not a Walmart fan...they just have the tastiest Whole Grain/Honey bread in DH and my opinion so we go in about 1-2x a week to buy it fresh!) seems to show me most wouldn't and in fact like to combine the two....ha!

I think they are horrible for the environment. They are a trend and I doubt any ever get worn out. They probably end up in the trash.

I never knew a pair of shoes can arouse such extreme opposite views! Now I can''t wait to try mine out!!
