Are both of your rings the same size?

My w-band is too big, but I've been putting off getting it resized since I don't want to part with it and most of the time I wear my e-ring on top, which keeps it in place. But I've been wearing the band solo more and more lately and people have commented that it looks big. I finally stopped into a Kay's and learned that the band is size 5.75, while my finger is size 5. My e-ring is also big at 5.75, but I don't mind because I always wear it with my band or on my right hand, which is slightly larger than my left.

I'm torn about how small to go with the band. Would you go all the way down to 5? Will it be noticeable if the band is tighter than the e-ring? I'm thinking of playing it safe and going down to 5.25, but I don't want to have to send the ring back to Mark M. twice. FWIW, I was sized at 5.5 twice when we were ring shopping in 2011.

Are both of your rings the same size? WWYD?

My finger is narrowest at the bottom form 34 years of wearing a ring. In summer it is bigger than in winter. Plain gold band is 7.75. I only wear it in winter to boost up the ering and diamond band. In summer I wear 8 in the other rings. Depending on your point in life, are you finished having kids (weight gain) , getting older ( possible weight loss), I wouldn't go down to less than .25 bigger than your actual size.

No but close. My ering is a bit bigger bec of the beads. My plain band was bumped up a hair to deal with my growing knuckles. I bought my Tiff band bigger on purpose but the rate my knuckles are going ill need that sized and beads installed.

Depending on the the thickness of the rings, in general, a person may go slightly larger or slightly smaller than their official "size"--which like another poster said, may be larger or smaller seasonally or with weight loss/gain.

If both your rings are 5.75 and you are currently a size 5, but have been 5.25 in the past--you may do better with sizing balls or sizing humps (shaped like a speed hump).

The thing is most of us don't wear our rings jammed aalll the way down to the webbing of our fingers. Unfortunately, a lot of people try on sizing rings trying to see the best fit and go for the one that fits exactly, not necessarily the one that is going to be the most comfortable in the long run. And, I've seen time and time again, where they jam the rings all the way down to the webbing and think that is the best size to go by. Rings usually sit most comfortably just above it. You have to consider how much finger space (in the direction of knuckle to nail) that your ring or rings will take up because some peoples fingers get a little fattier toward the middle knuckle. Some peoples finger fat gets pushed up (think of squeezing a balloon) if one or more rings are slightly tight. So in that instance, you'd want the ring that sits on the fattier portion to be a bit larger.

Anyway, with those different measurements you've got, it might be best not to go through the hassle of a permanent sizing down. Just let the sizing balls/humps take up the slack.

I would get sizing beads or a horseshoe or something for aesthetic reasons - I like when the wedding band and the Ering shank are the same depth(height off the finger), and I think sizing a significant amount like 3/4 would be enough to reduce the band's height off the finger enough that they no longer match when worn together.

My graduated multi-stone ring, the matching plain band, and my eternity are all 4.5s. They're super loose on my left hand - fall off if there isn't something in front sort of loose. I don't want to have them sized because I like being able to wear them on my right hand sometimes, so I'm going to have (pretty large) sizing beads or a liner put in.

Lots of great advice here. The band that I wear closest to my finger webbing is usually .25 - .5 smaller than the next ring up.

Also, did they size you with the smaller or larger mm bands? I can fit a 5.25 solitaire on my ring finger if I wear it alone or with a very thin band because it is super thin. But the rings I have on today are a 6.5 and a 7, because together they are 5.5mm wide. They are a little big, but it's summer so it's more comfortable this way. Sized with the small sizers, I am under a 6, but with the larger mm sizer I am a 6.5. I gained weight over the past four years; this is about the largest my fingers get, but now I am losing and already I can tell that my ring size has dropped a little. By the time I am at goal my ring finger will possibly be back to a 5.25 (if I am wearing thin bands), but I don't think I'll size anything smaller than a 6. My left hand eternities are a 6 and a 6.25 and I can't size those anyway, and now I am learning that I can expect my knuckles to get bigger as I get older, so it's just as well.

On my right hand right now I size at 6.25 - 6.5 with the smaller mm sizer, but as soon as I stack more than 2 bands I need them bigger than 6.5 or they muffin top on my finger. In winter it won't be a problem.

Mine are the same. I have a set of sizers and play w/them to decide which fits best. They're loose, not attached to a D ring or whatever, so I can put one on and wear it a little, flip my hand around, mess around w/it to see how it feels. My fingers are the same size on both hands, tho being right handed, those fingers are slightly larger, but not enough to make a huge difference. I like to get them on/off w/out a struggle, but I don't want them to slide when I'm moving my hands around.

I never thought about the height off the finger being different after sizing, so I'd go w/what Yssie said and get sizing beads, or get them both sized.

Wow, lots of good advice here!

Yssie raises an interesting point. My rings do not have the same silhouette (e-ring is rounded, w-band is soft knife edge) so even though the rings are the same size, the w-band is slightly higher off the finger. It's not noticeable when worn normally but if I push both rings up against my middle finger I can see that the w-band sticks out farther. It may actually help to size the w-band down a bit, say to 5.5 or 5.25. I'm convinced I shouldn't go all the way down to 5. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

ETA: My w-band is 2mm comfort fit, so quite a bit thinner and easier to get on and off than the ring sizers at Kay's. I'd guess the sizer was 2.5mm with sharp edges and attached to a giant ring. However, in retrospect, I did push the sizer closer to the webbing between my fingers than the place my rings naturally sit.

My e-ring is a six with a small sizing bar. Since my bands are eternity I chose to have them as a size 6.25. Just a little room for growing or what have you. I also tried that with my e-ring originally but it would spin so I had it taken down.

My main rings, yes. Both size 5.25.

But I have two little half eternity pave bands I like to use to flank either the e-band or the solitaire. They were a clearance deal, so one is a 5, the other a 6. I wear the 5 on the bottom of the stack, and the 6 on top, and pretend that the spinning doesn't bother me.

Gosh, I just changed my vote - size away! ::)

I've always heard that you *can* generally size plain bands a couple of times without demolishing structural sturdiness so even if you get it wrong now, with a 5.5/5.25, you're unlikely to have closed all doors and windows re. re-sizing up! But I would confirm that with the bench.

Just snapped a quick pic in my office. It's not a flattering pic of my stone, but you can see that if I smush my fingers together, the w-band sticks out just slightly father than the e-ring.

My wedding band is wider and it's a size 5 and my eng ring is a 4.75. My knuckles are big so I had to get the size 5 to fit the wider ring over, but my eng ring, even as a 4.75 spins on it's own so I can't wear it by itself. I'm ready for a new set and in fact, would just prefer to wear one ring...I don't like how my rings rattle and bump into each other...though I did find a set that I would wear and both bands are thin, so I can get them as a 4.75 and no more rattling.

Both your bands are thin enough that you could resize and have them fit over your finger and then they'd line up also.
