Hello:

Please help if you can answer one or both questions above! Looking for an appraiser in Vancouver (anyone have a Sarin?) and a trusted bench. Thanks in advance.....

cheers--Sharon

I used Jeanne L Johnson to appraise my Ebay OEC. I do not know if she has a Sarin since my stone wasn't loose, but she was definitely knowledgable about cut. I liked her very much. You can reach her at 604-685-8319.

Are you looking for a good bench to do repairs or for custom work? I've never had any jewelry made in Vancouver, but I have had repair work done by Expert Casting (in the same building as Jeanne). They're owned by Ron Davidson of Davidson Designs and they did a nice job sizing an antique ring for me.

Hope that helps!

may I ask what price range they charged for repairs or sizing?

HI:

Thanks for the suggestions: the information is for my sister in Vangroovie.

Kennedy: Can you tell me how much your appraisal was?

cheers--Sharon

canuk-gal -- The appraisal was $95. It definitely wasn't as thorough as the one I have from Rich Sherwood when he appraised my loose modern RB, but she did the appraisal while I sat in her office and seemed very knowledgable.

ninitan -- Expert Casting charged me $100 to size a platinum ring up 1.5 sizes. They used a laser and managed to salvage most of the inscription on the inside of the shank (it's an antique ring from 1928). They also tightened the center stone. They did a nice job and I can't tell that the ring has been sized.

Hi Canuk-Gal:

I don't know if you saw my post about the flux on my stone but it was Jeannie who did the assessment and help me figure out what happened to my diamond. She was super kind and super thoughtful and has continued to be very supportive of my situation.

I've had a few appraisals done by her and I think that the $95 is the going rate + HST of course  .

I don't think you get any of those fancy reports though. Just the standard one page document with some basic measurements and the 4Cs. You could call her and ask if she's able to provide the Sarin-type reports and if not, she may be able to refer you to someone who can. Another one that I've heard others have used is Michael Cavanaugh (spelling?) but I've never dealt with him personally.

As for the bench jeweler - I need help on that one too as the place that sold me my diamond/ring was the same place that botched the repair.

Kennedy - Regarding, the ring repair done by Expert Casting . . . what kind of repair was it? Did it have a very valuable diamond in it?

For me, there's always two issues with jewelry repair:
a) are the they going to do a good repair job on the piece itself
b) can I trust them with my stone

I brought my e-ring to the original jeweler because I thought they met criteria b. Unfortunately, they failed me on criteria a. Now I'm looking for someone who can meet both criteria.

Hi guys. I am looking for an appraiser too. Did you have a good experience with those appraisers? I have emailed Harold Lindsay, an appraiser that does appraisals around at many jewelry shops in the lower mainland. Searched online quickly and found him. Don't know if he is okay or not.
