Appraisals in South Carolina

Hello. I just found this site. I live in Charleston, SC and was wondering if any of you know where I can get a diamond engagement ring appraised. I bought the ring off of eBay from someone who seemed reputable. The ring looks great (don't know anything about the "C" stuff). I am thing of going to Skatell's Jewlers to get them to appraise it. They say that they have a GIA certified appraiser on site. Is this good? Like I said, I know nothing about diamonds, except that they are expensive . Any help would be greatly appreciated. I wish I could recommend someone to you, but I really don't know of any good independent appraisers there. You may want to ask David Atlas, www.gemappraisers.com. He may know of somebody he can recommend or you can send the piece to him.
