Appraisals and True Value

Hello. I purchased jewellery online from Bidz.com and am trying to get an appraisal on goods without paying huge amounts on valuations. What are the main pitfalls in companies spruiking prices and their true values,or can companies put out any recommended price they like especially on jewellery and watches without some sort of verification safeguards.

Is there a cert comming with the stone? If not, I'd go to ask an appraiser what exactly the piece is worth as in "replacement value" before it gets tooo late to act upon the finding... No idea what your purchase was, but the frontpage at Bidz makes me think an apprasal would be a good idea
