I have a few questions about appraisals, some general, some specific. First, does anyone have any recommendations for appraisers in the Baltimore area. Second, I am not sure what type of appraisal I need. I really just want someone to verify my diamond is actually what I purchased and that the price was appropriate. For this purpose, is it really necessary to seek out an independent appraiser, or is it okay to go to a local reputable jewelry store? Third, how much should I expect to pay for an appraisal? I saw on one thread that some independent appraisers charge around $250 dollars. For the size ring I purchased, under 1 ct., it doesnt seem to make a lot of sense to spend that much on an appraisal. Lastly, is there a reason to go to an appraiser that does the appraisal while you wait, as opposed to one that has a turnaround time of a few days? Thanks to everyone on this board for so much help.
