I am new to the jewelry space and was wondering if anyone knows something about this piece in particular. It was my grandmothers but due to her age and sizes of the small clasps, she has given it to me. The clasp has 925 on it.

Thanks in advance

That looks like genuine silver filigree (as opposed to a filigree-like look). I don’t know much about how widespread this kind of work is. One of my aunts gave me a piece of filigree jewelry made, I think, in Indonesia in the 60’s or early 70’s.

ETA: I’ve seen a lot of lacy-look jewelry that’s referred to as filigree, but you piece is what I think of as real filigree: thin flat silver wires that are curled and spaced and soldered (almost invisibly) to give an open, lacy appearance. I’ve no idea whether my understanding is correct, however.

Thanks for the reply! That's interesting to hear that there could be an interesting background to this piece. I am not too sure if it would be worth having a jeweler look at it for more insight, any thoughts?

Hi, it’s beautiful.
The 925 is for sterling silver.
It is a filigree Orchid flower necklace, such stylised jewellery was very popular in the 1940s and 50s so it’s a beautiful vintage piece. The design style does date back to Victorian times (they had a love of flowers and insects expressed in their jewellery ie pansy jewellery and bees, dragonflies etc). Whether a piece is old old or just vintage old is often impossible to determine.

Very beautiful!
These filigree pieces are made in places where silver work thrives,
like Mexico, Bolivia, Spain etc.
It may be hard to know origin for sure. It does look vintage to me, maybe 1940's, like @Bron357 mentioned.

Beautiful necklace, so ornate, they don't make pieces like they used to :kiss2:

This is a really beautiful piece with high sentimental value. What a lovely piece to remind you of your grandmother and how wonderful that you still have your grandmother with you so she can see you wearing and enjoying it. Enjoy this and enjoy your sweet grandmother. My grandmother has been gone for quite a while. She was a wonderful person and was a huge influence. I miss her terribly. She was very fashionable and loved jewelry but had very few pieces, so I have almost nothing of hers. But I treasure the few little pieces of costume jewelry she was able to give me. One of these days, I want to get a small emerald (her birthstone) piece in her memory.
