I know this is highly unlikely, but if you did sell your wedding set (or any part of it) how did you do it? I know of a couple of antique dealers but obviuosly the price would not be good. I'm only wondering because I am forever finding new things I love but they are never princess cuts, and trying to make anything else fit into my princess cut settings would not work either and I don't see the point in having a spare set around. neverending dilemma ... and if you're wondering about sentimental value I'm afraid because I have already remodelled both the sentimentality is already lost (which i didn't know I'd miss, but whaddyaknow!)

oops, sorry - meant to put this in rocky talky, perhaps a moderator can move? thanks

Hi LoveLoveLoveit!

I have sold a diamond ring in Australia. As you say, the auction houses will not fetch much. The way I did it was approach an independent jeweller to see if he would sell my piece on consignment. The jeweller will take a percentage (eg. 10%) so this is a win-win situation. The beauty of doing it this way is that you negotiate the price up front. You decide how much you are prepared to let your piece go for. You may be pleasantly surprised but also, be prepared, if you do it this way, that someone may offer a lower price than you expected. You can then have the jeweller ring you, and you can consider whether you are prepared to sell for that. Only other advice I would give is to ensure you have everything in writing (preferably a photo of the piece, too) about what you have left with the jeweller, including any valuation or diamond certificates and you both sign this piece of paper.

Good luck!
