Are there prices similar to the online dealers or higher?

Now Im considering that maybe just maybe if I can''t find what I had originally wanted which was an entire antique ring I may buy setting and a diamond seperaty.

They used to operate solely out of the giftcenter in San Francisco. Now their focus is on their new store at Santana Row in San Jose. I'd say the prices between the two are similiar with the service level being MUCH higher in the Santana Row store, IMO. I don't see any reaosn not to do business with them, they have some very nice things. That said, just due to the geography, you'll likely spend a bit more than from an Internet vendor.

Run a search on Derco with subject title. There have been alot of threads in the past.

Some have been happy with their experience and others have not. Personally I don't shop anymore at maul-like jewelers which I consider a Derco to be...but I don't have any actual experience with them.

I just got a diamond from them last week. They has lots of inventory. Price is very good comparing to the online vendors here.

What is it about these Derco threads that brings the first-time posters out of the woodwork?

my sister bought her ering from derco and her stone is fantastic. i believe for their ideal cut stones, they have either gia or ags certs and sometimes both! if you call them and tell them exactly what you are looking for ahead of time, they look through their inventory and pull what matches your criteria.
their prices are similiar to internet prices..maybe a little more, but compared to most B&M stores, their prices are less, and diamond quality better. IMHO..

When I was searching for diamond for my engagement ring, I actually went to Derco at Santana Row with my girlfriend.

I called ahead with the specs I wanted, and the saleslady was able to find couple of diamonds that matched my description.

These diamonds are truly beautiful, both of them have both GIA and AGS certs (AGS000). However, since these two stones are kind of not in the carat range I wanted, I asked for a bigger stone. The 96 point stone she then showed me was again great, very brilliant. The saleslady who helped me, Svetna, was very patient and helpful, she even brought out the H&A viewer for me to view the H&A patterns on these stones.

I spent almost an hour there, getting to see quite a few really well-cut diamonds, and never got a hint of impatience from the Svetna. I actually ended up buying my diamond online only because the Derco diamond is of a higher color than I really needed, and I found a stone exactly to my liking at WhiteFlash.

BTW, the Santana Row store is open on weekends, I believe the Saturday hours is 10am-6pm, and Sunday 11am-5pm. They have a lifetime upgrade policy - they give you 100% of your current diamond purchase price toward a new one if you purchased the original one from them and trade it in when you buy the new one. They also has life-time cleaning for free I believe. Their brochure on diamond has the most information on cut than any I've seen.

Anyway, that's just my experience, I think you should definitely check them out if you live in the bay area.

Happy diamond hunting.
