Anyone have an ideal-cut/ACA type diamond for EARRINGS?

If so is it worth it over a lesser cut diamond? I imagine it makes a big deal with a ring - but for earrings I am not convinced the price increase is wortwhile.

I am looking for something around 1.4-1.5 tcw for round diamonds, and am having a hard time finding diamonds paired with equal proportions... can anyone help?

A lot of people go with lower specs for stud diamonds -maybe they drop a few colour grades or go for slightly more included diamonds because they won't be looking at them all day and no one really looks at studs so closely. One reason to go for ideal cut diamonds though is if you plan to upgrade them at any point -most vendors only upgrade their in house diamonds. I personally wouldn't want to drop too far away from ideal cut diamonds in terms of cut quality (but you don't necessarily need AGS000).

I would rather save money on studs by buying lower colours i.e down to a J or lower quality i.e down to Si2, than sacrifice cut quality.

I do.

I tried to save money and get non ideal/ branded stones when I bought my earrings 2 years ago but there really wasn't that big a price difference at the time so I went with ideal cut branded stones. It was so much easier to find a match. My earrings are 1.25ct total weight.

Recently I purchased .60ct total weight studs for my daughters birthday. I found a matched pair at BGD and used that as a price point. I had ID jewelry see what they could do and they were several hundred dollars more expensive than the branded ideal pair.

Do your homework and find what works best for you. Just because something is not ideal/branded, doesn't automatically make it cheaper.

You can look at Whiteflash too - they have some matched pairs already listed.

WF has Expert Selection diamonds which provide a good buy in terms of matched pairs, also.

Yes, I have ACA's but wouldn't hesitate to use WF Expert Selection or Premium Select. They are usually ideal cut. Those stones are SO much easier to match because they are cut to very specific parameters. If you give us a budget we can help you find pairs.

YES! Any help would be much appreciated - the earrings are a surprise present for a promotion. Loose budget is $7k for everything but that can change if there is something that looks great. She has earrings now which are .64 tcw, which she wears every day, and she has average to small earlobes -- is 1.5 tcw an appropriate amount for every-day wear in a formal business environment without looking gaudy? That was the size I thought would look good but I really don't know.

I am thinking an SI1/SI2, H/I color would be ideal.

The diamonds I keep seeing in the 'paired sets' seem to not be well suited for earrings given that they are pretty deep.

I purchased a ~1.5 diamond from GoG and was really happy with everything from them and wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again, WF looks to be a good option too as I have had friends who have had good experience with them as well.

Also I need to get this done in the next two weeks :)

Many thanks to everyone here on Pricescope for suggestions.

I have the BGD signature stones and I only went with ideal stones because I wanted the option to upgrade (which I've already used once). If you don't think she'll will upgrade, I think it's fine to go with non-ideal stones...

Well-cut earrings look bigger and brighter so it's worth going down in color/clarity for better cut! As others have said, Expert Selection are a good option...

Either way, keep in mind that hair products, lotions, make-up, all tend to coat and gunk up earrings so they need to be clean often to maintain sparkle. Having better cut diamonds means that they will still have more sparkle if you don't get a chance to clean them!

The Expert Selection is a great choice where it doesn't need the precision of perfection that is undetectable to most eyes, is covered under the upgrade options, easily paired up for earring, and well priced. You can even drop as low as I/J for earrings.

Do you like these?

Or would it make sense to mix your first one,
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2763665.htm

With this one?

The mix-and-match option looks nice to me - they are similarly sized, colored, and the table size is very nice in the diamond you found, which gives a little more bang for the buck.

Let me know your thoughts! They will go in a 3-prong martini setting.

I love to match up earrings!

WF has a couple of pairs that will work in either .80 each I VS2 or H SI1:

($3464 PS/wire price)

I absolutely love the pair you listed at the top! (The .80x H SI1's) I didn't list those because they were a little over your budget. But I will tell you that I just bought that exact size in H VS2's and think they are a perfect size!!! They really look bigger than they do in the picture because the lighting wasn't very good in my bathroom!

(I would not mix H and I colors.)

Ok I am a little confused, can you help?

I am curious as to why you prefer this matched set over the mix-and-match that I put together:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/diamond-pairs-details.aspx?Diamond1=2829826&Diamond2=2792448

Is there somethign I'm missing?

The WF matched set there has this stone:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2829826.htm
Which is, by carat, weight larger (and therefore more expensive), but looks to have a large imperfection right in the middle, and has a lower HCA score than this one I like more:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2792450.htm

I would match it with the second stone on the right of the matched set from above,
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2792448.htm

They are closer in size and the only difference really is the color.

Can you let me know your thoughts? THANK YOU as always.

Okay, when I clicked on your links the first time, I thought it was for an H stone and I stone. Now in your last post I clicked on a G stone. I still would not mix colors. That would drive me nuts. Color is the most visible aspect assuming the size and cut match. let me look back at the H stones again.

One more thing...lower HCA score means nothing. These are AGS Ideal cut stones and you don't even use the HCA for these. We usually use the HCA to weed out the worse stones from the GIA Excellent category which is much broader than AGS Ideal. In any event, an HCA score of .8 is NOT better than 1.8. All stones that score under 2 to 2.5 are worth further investigation and a lower score within that area is not better than a higher one.

OK, so your vote is still for this one?

If the stones are on different ears, could you possibly tell they're one grading off, or would it just be in your mind? If that is the case, I won't let my wife see the certificates :)

Also, you are right, I think I messed up my copy/paste job.

Okay, there are 5 excellent matches within H VS2 and H SI1. In fact, there are three H VS2's that are almost the same price as the SI1's so I would go for 2 H VS2's, personally.

All of these have close diameters, table sizes, and lower girdle facet sizes.

I think my personal choice would be #2 and #4. Each is under $3800 with pricescope discount and wire pmt.

These are basically identical to my new ones other than mine were ACA's.
