Anyone have a picture of .31 vs .41 diamond. earring questio

Hey all,

I picked up a pair of stones today .31 and .32 for earrings. I was pretty close to getting a pair of .41s but wasn't sure it was worth the extra 430. I am thinking since they were K's (and the lower colors get bought fast because they can be a better deal if you don't mind the colour), I probably should of just picked them up as 400 isn't that much more but when I checked a few hours later the .41 pair was gone. I also notice there are tons of stones in the .3Xs but not as many in the .4Xs. Anyways, it is too late now and I know there isn't much that can be done but if anyone has a comparison picture it be great (I only see the standard sizes not what I am looking for). it is .4mm difference aprox. Here is a pair of 5mm Mali Garnet (old crappy camera they are really yellow etc, bad picture) on my ear which I think look pretty big so maybe it won't be too small the 4.4mm vs the 4.8mm. I don't want to bug the vendor anymore so I am asking here if anyone actually has a pic of lose or set in these sizes.

were you looking at the brian gavin ones? i was looking at them too but ended up getting some J's that were the same size but actually cheaper (wooo saving money). they weren't listed near each other though - i matched them up myself.

simlarly, perhaps you could consider these:

those are 4.75 and 4.79 mm - slightly different in size, and one is an I and one a J, but perhaps the differences are not significantly noticable. you could ask. total with the 10% off would be 1260 plus setting cost...

ETA: I just saw that you said you already picked up the .31 and .32 ones. I'm sure the size difference won't be too huge. but if the price of the above isn't too much more perhaps you could ask about them...

Yes, those were the 2 Ks I was looking at the .413 and .416. When I spoke with them they said a .3 pair or .4 pair are not that different when woren, but if I was too compare the stone sets beside each other I could tell slightly (I don't notice that much difference in a 1.1ct vs a 1.21ct but then that's a totally different size group all together, but hoping it is this slight of a change). I saw the 2 you posted as well but something about having .38 and .41 in the same pair bugged me. It probably isn't too much of a size difference just I wanted them to be closer. What size did you get?

I just placed an order for diamonds studs from BGD on Wednesday and had a similar question for them because I had already purchased .37ct stones from James Allen. It made more sense to return the JA stones and just buy the stones from BGD because of their upgrade policy (among other reasons) but the only stones with the same specs that were close to the price I paid for the JA stones were .31ct each. I spoke to Jamie at BGD and she said she doubts I would notice a difference in the sizes once set. She said there was a .3 mm difference, which is equivalent to 3 sheets of copy paper. I ended up going to my local store and they had some studs with .33 ct diamonds and .38 ct stones and I could only notice a slight difference in those sizes so I went ahead with the BGD order I'm returning the larger JA stones.

Hi Icce! I just came back across this thread. I went with .41 ish Js that I matched myself. We shall see how that works out. The diameters were similar but the tables were a tad different. But with their upgrade policy I don't intend to keep these forever .

Post pictures of yours when you get them!!!! I ordered mine Friday night, and Lesley said it would take a few days...but I saw stargurl's are on the way so hopefully ours are sent soon too!

I took pictures of my old studs because I was trying to sell them (ended up selling them back to the jewelry store they came from). However, this may be relevant to your inquiry. They were sold to me as .75 ctw, but they were in a "section" of a bunch of stones that were .75, so my guess is that was approximate and they probably are less than that. I tried measuring with my ruler, and they seem to be about 4 1/3 mm in diameter. So they might actually be similar in diameter to the stones you purchased (according to BGD's website the .31 ish ones are about 4.3 mm). I tried to measure my ear lobe to give you a little more perspective, but trying to measure your ear with a 12 inch (30mm) ruler and no mirror is harder than one would expect.

Anyway, can't wait to see them!

So here they are. These are not the same as I posted above as issues arose and so the specs on these ones are....

BGD hearts and arrows
0.355 I SI1 4.55 x 4.56 x 2.80mm
0.347 H SI1 4.52 x 4.56 x 2.78mm
Didn't loop them yet to inspect all the way around but will do it soon.
