Anyone have a "matcut"?

I have seen several stones on IG cut in this unusual way that is new to me. I think I dig it, but of course haven't seen any in person. Does anyone have any they can share, or thoughts about it? The Asian seller says "we just call it Matcut". I wonder if he/she means matte?

That's an odd cut. It looks to me like they have buffed all of the meets and given them a frosted glass finish. Not sure I like it.

I think it is kinda funky, but I feel like I would only get a relatively inexpensive gem cut this way...it feels very "novelty" to me, not that it's bad!

Looks like some facets have been polished to more of a frost/matte finish.

It's an interesting technique in a lapidary's tool belt!

The hydrothermal emerald here also has a few subtly frosted facets on its pavilion.

that looks like it's etched. i've seen something like that before, super intricate design carved on the underside of a stone, always on less expensive stones like topaz etc. wish i could remember who does that kind of work so i could post a picture. they can be very cool.

It's different and innovative, however, I prefer shiny things and not buffed/matte.

But id like to see stones cut like this in an actual setting before i deside if i like it or not

i love his stone cutting. i see them every so often for sale on the gem trader

for the "matte" though i'm thinking of an american cutter through who does frosted/etched designs...frustrating i can't remember.

The closest American I can think of is John Dyer, but his style isn't pure frosted/etched.

Call me an old fuddy duddy but I don’t really like any of the “fantasy cuts” or fancy etchings or even the concave cuts.

Only exception is the antique carved gemstones.

These always seem a bit fussy and not very timeless. Kosnar do a lot of that stuff and I’m always skeptical. Give me a native cut or antique style any day. I don’t even like MRBs really!
