Does anyone else feel like this? That your engagement ring is such a work of art that it''s almost too pretty to wear? That you don''t like to wear it because you''re worried about it getting scratched up, dinged, etc.? I love my engagement ring so much but I always worry about wearing it because it''s so invaluable to me. It sounds funny but I''d rather it be tucked safely in a pretty box while I wore a phony ring for everyday so if it got scratched up it''d be ok. LOL

I know it sounds weird, but I''m curious if anyone else feels this way?

Oh my stars NO! I couldn't wait to wear mine! lol

DITTO!

As soon as I had that baby insured, I had it on and I wore it everywhere.

And my stone is set in a halo, with pave everywhere. I figure if something happens, we can fix it. And the real loss would be not getting to enjoy it!

my fiance felt the same way, until i explained to her that i went way over budget on it and she better wear it 24/7 so that i get my moneys worth
now she never takes it off, not even to the gym lol

I guess I''m in the minority, lol. I also hate when anyone but me touches it. If people grab my ring to try and see the diamond it drives me nuts. I''m constantly polishing it or cleaning it. I''m odd, I know.

No, you are just a PSer!

Not totally. If I whack it I do get freaked, and once I had Tiffany''s polish it and it looked so awesome and new, but I mostly do wear mine and enjoy it.

I was like that in the beginning, but soon got used to wearing it. I still look at my ring to see if there are any "marks" or "dings" on it and am obsessed with keeping it clean.

Laila don''t worry you are not in the minority at all I am still the same way and have had mine for a while now. I really don''t like it when someone else grabs her and touches her and I am super paranoid about hitting it on my desk or on doors or anything like that.
I recently dropped it at work onto carpet and was on PS freaking out that I may have hurt her LOL!
But I do try to enjoy her b/c she is so darn beautiful...heck my ring is my phone wallpaper, my computer wallpaper, screen saver geez I even have a color print out of my center stone idealscope image in my wallet.
I know I need to seek professional help and possibly get on some meds

Enjoy your ring!
Cheers

No! I feel naked without her on!! Wear your beauty!!!

Heeheehee. The thought crossed my mind! I felt that way more when I got a new car recently. Whenever I parked it, I'd think... Oh no, some big hoopty is going to slam open the door and ding it! Then it happened and I fixed it. No biggie.

Ring? Not so much! I guess because I want to enjoy the heck out of it. Sometimes I think fondly to the day I'll be a little old lady and wear it with the marks and dents (but it will still be shiny and clean because I'll have bifocals by then to peer at the smudges haha)... Diamonds will get knicks and scratches over time. It's inevitable. Thank goodness we aren't able to see them. And if we're enjoying the heck out of life, hopefully we won't care! LOL.

But I feel ya. It's more my FI who is afraid of my wearing it anywhere. He thinks it puts me in danger. And when I whack it, his face looks pained. Heehee. I also figured with the melee, one or two are bound to fall out at some point. I resolved not to let it get in the way of my life. If they fall out, they fall out. I'll be careful, but I'm going to let that ring LIVE and share in my adventures! Heehee. Don't tell FI. He thinks I baby it.

But my ring is like Amelia Earhart! She's a wild fearless broad! LOL.

Oo, I can relate to this. For me I think it''s because I feel it was a very generous gift and I want to preserve it just the way it was when I received it. I don''t wear mine too often, but clean it nearly every day, haha.

when I noticed the stones on my half-eternity were damaging the basket of my e-ring it actually made me sad--like my ring would never be the same. I wear a spacer when I wear my e-ring now, but have noticed a few nicks in the platinum of my ring (I even loupe them) and it just makes me want to keep it in a box and preserve it as it was when he presented it to me forever.

Not any more. As a solitaire it put you in danger. Now no mugger will ever think it''s real

I think I''m somewhere in between: I''m paranoically careful to check my prongs almost every single day, but, on the other hand, it''s a *good* day if I remember to take it off before I start silversmithing and whacking the mallet and tools around. I really *am* one of the ones who wears it 24/7, or nearly ... the only times it comes off are when I''m showering or applying lotion (or doing heavy work with my hands in a premeditated fashion, as opposed to just getting excited and getting right to it). But, the thing is ... I''m one of those people who loves tangible, human signs of wear. I love sterling jewelry because it''s such a "human" metal, aging right alongside us: I''m more touched by an antique band with all of its engraving worn away then I am by a shiny new micropave piece without so much as a scratch on it; I''m fascinated by all of the stories implicit in a thing that''s obviously loved. Bliss really pinned it for me when she said, "Sometimes I think fondly to the day I''ll be a little old lady and wear it with the marks and dents."

P.S. - Bliss, normally if someone was worried about safety issues I''d recommend turning the stone palm-side, but in your case, I''m not sure if that would even *work* to conceal the shine of that big, beautiful torch of a ring!

i couldnt wait to have my ring on my finger, but that doesnt mean i dont worry about scratching it and keeping it clean...its kind obsessive how concerned i am wt the well being of my ring lol...even now im sorta feeling separation anxiety because it had to go back to the jeweler to get fixed....

I wear my jewelry 24/7 except when I''m in the hospital on clinical. I bought all my pieces to enjoy, not keep hidden away in a box! But I do admit that when I whack my my hand on a doorframe, etc., that I instinctively flinch and say "ouch" as if my ring or watch actually felt the insult! Then I carefully inspect for any damage that may have been inflicted. There are some little ding marks, but that just adds to the charm of the piece. You can always have the ring professionally polished back to its original condition if the wear marks bother you. Wear your gorgeous ring, love and enjoy it, Sweety.

That was exactly my argument! But FI doesn't think so. He seems to think it's worse now. LOL. I hope the people who aren't used to big diamonds think it's fake. That would be GREAT!
26.gif
But most people know it's real. The ones who think it's fake will think all diamonds over 2 carats are fake because they aren't used to them. That is good for us!

Bliss, you''re ring is beautiful. I was just teasing
9.gif

I would rock it any day. On my size 8 fingers it would look a lot smaller though

Not me--I think it''s too pretty to let it sit all alone in my jewelry chest! I want to appreciate that beauty all day long.

I do clean it every day, and I do not wear it when I work out, do dishes, clean house, or do laundry. I want to keep her clean and safe.

Miss Purrfect, you''re going to be rockin'' a fabulous honker yourself! I can''t WAIT to see what you do with all these huge diamonds! That one you recently acquired is MAGIC. It''s a HONKA.... Very special. Can''t wait to see what you do with it!
36.gif
How many honkas you got there? You''re creating quite the collection of big pet rocks!

Not me!!! I have even turned around miles away from my house to go back and get it if I forgot to put it on! It''s insured, so i''m not so worried. (Even though it has pave and fine milgrain, but we can always have it fixed up if we need to.)
