So sorry to hear your follow up appointment didn't go as well as we had all wanted for you. I hope your biopsy results show the tumor is benign. Did you already make an appointment with the surgeon? If so, I hope the wait isn't too long for the appointment and biopsy results. Waiting is quite nerve wracking, as I'm sure you already know. In the meantime, try not to panic. Easier said then done, I know, but nothing concrete indicates a dire situation right now. I'm very sorry you are going through such a stressful time.

Sending big hugs and lots of dust your way.

Ok this is more serious, but it does not mean this is cancer. It may be entirely benign. You will get the results quickly. If possible, can you ask how long it will roughly take to get the results back? It may take longer but at least you will have a ballpark, otherwise you will drive yourself to distraction worrying about it every single day.

Even if this is cancer, it may be entirely treatable and CURABLE. People beat cancer every day.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I pray this is a benign tumour, a fibroma. Big hugs in this uncertain time xoxo

Hopefully it comes back benign. I'm sure its a stressful thing to have hanging over you, but stay strong and positive. Try to keep your mind busy with other things in the meantime, and we'll all be thinking of you.

Hi, I don't post often but just wanted to say hang in there. I just went through this last month, biopsy and all. My biospy came back negative, so try not to worry just yet. I know its hard as I've been there but try to occupy yourself with other things. I just kept telling myself that it isn't a diagnosis until they say so. Either way it will be okay....hugs

Hi! This is my first post but I have been in your shoes. I got the call back, ultrasound etc.etc.etc-then they sent me to the surgeon. I was 39 and had an 18 month old at home......I ended up having a lumpectomy and it was benign. Lot's of lost sleep and worry along the way. I am now 51 and have never had a normal mammogram-ever. Please please don't panic. Take a deep breath and just hang in there. Many many of these turn out to be benign. They also told me my tumor had the "look" of possible being benign. For what it's worth, I was in a panic about having general anesthesia and convinced them to do it under local-the tumor was much bigger than they thought and it took way longer than planned-all the while I was awake. Bone head move on my part. Should of had general. Good luck and many prayers are being said for you!

I wish you all the best and hope it is benign, especially since they said there was a chance, usually they do not say such things just to calm someone. Keep us posted, please!

I was just thinking about you today and was hoping for good news on your follow up. My heart just goes out to you when I read that you threw up because of the anxiety of all this. I get like that too. I'm praying for a benign result. Jumbo hugs to you.

You are in my prayers. Hugs to you and I really hope its benign!

That said, breast cancer is very curable if caught early.

Many of my female relatives are breast cancer survivors so I think I have a strange view of it. I think it sucks, but I see it as something that you can often work through. If the results come back as the early stages of cancer, you'll have a really bad year ahead of you. You'll have to be strong and buckle down for a fight, but you can do it! I've seen my mom and her sister fight this and they both came through it and are now completely cancer free. Treatment for breast cancer has really advanced in the last 20 years. My mom fought like hell for about 3 years, but has now been cancer free for 20. My aunt was diagnosed about 5 years ago and with improved treatment she was through surgery, chemo, and reconstruction in less than a year. A diagnosis of cancer isn't a death sentence.

I know my story probably doesn't help, I'm just trying to make a point that you need to be proactive and get your game face on. Being scared is completely normal, but you also need to be ready to tackle whatever your body throws at you!

Prayers and dust headed your way, asscherisme. I've been through the biopsy process, so I can totally relate to how you are feeling right now. Hoping and praying that you get good news. Not to be redundant, but if the news isn't so great, there are many options available. My sister-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy and did radiation, and is now on Tamoxifen. She wanted to do chemo, but her oncologist did not think it was necessary. Three years later, she is still cancer-free and doing great.

I'll be looking forward to your next update, praying for a positive outcome!

When do you see the breast surgeon? Lots of dust and please keep us informed. Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.

One of my pet peeves is that it seems like these things always land towards the end of the week, so you have the whole weekend to worry :nono: - I hate that.

Thanks you for the replies and positive thoughts. I know that even if it is cancer. there has been so much progress in treatment that I have a good chance to beat it.

Unfortunately my appointment with the breast surgeon is not for a few weeks. I have an HMO so I had to wait on her schedule. Its the Wed. before Thanksgiving.

I have calmed down a bit and decided to do my best to not worry until I find out what the biopsy says or I will make myself crazy worrying.

That's a long wait, I'm so sorry. I'm used to the UK system, where you wouldn't wait much longer than a week for a biopsy, in your situation. We have strict deadlines for cancer care here in public healthcare.

What is the reason for the long wait?

Believe it or not I just got results yesterday. I had to wait a MONTH for an appointment with surgeon and biopsy. Had biopsy day before Thanksgiving and then STRESSED over holidays. The wating is awful but I found that after biopsy the stress level went higher.

Anyway, it was totally benign!! Not even precancerous, just benign.

Phew, phew, phew! I was so relieved that when I hung up the phone, I started to cry even thought I was relieved. I have been so stressed about it, and had to pretnend like nothing was wrong for my kids. My daughter came into the room after I hung up phone and I was alone in room and crying and asked me what was wrong and I told her that I had a little health scare but I was just fine :)

Anyway, thanks so much for all the support and thoughts.

I think the waiting is the WORST part.

I am heading out for a lonnnng workout now to release the stress I've been under.

I´m so happy for you that everything is okay, I´ve been following your thread and was wondering if you had your results yet. What a horrible time it has been for you, having to wait so long, I would have been worried sick too. Now you can enjoy the holiday season with your family and recover from all the stress of the last couple of months. I wish you all the best for the future.

That's great news!! :appl: I'm so relieved for you. Sorry you had to go through such a stressful experience. Glad you can relax now.

The silver lining about health care scares is they really help put things in perspective going forward. They remind you to live life to the fullest and not care about petty things that might have bothered you before.

I could not agree more about the silver lining. I have been finding appreciation in little things. I know it sounds silly but especially with my kids, just simply watching my daughter's basketball game is something I enjoy being able to do.

And on the bright side, I have started working out more because I figured if I was sick with cancer, I needed my strength to fight it. And If I was not sick, losing the extra weight I have gained lowers my risk of health issues and will just make me feel overall better.

Thanks to everyone for the support. Its very appreciated.

I am so happy for you! I was following this thread and frankly, got scared when you did not post for a while. Well, now the sword of Damocles is not hanging over your head. Congratulations, and more congratulations. But pardon my curiosity, you must have mentioned it somewhere else but I do not quite remember it... where are you living? Not the exact location, but is it a small town? Because it seems incredible to me that the wait is so long...

I moved after my divorce back east. I am not comfortable saying where but nope, not a small town at all. I just have lousy healthy insurance. This whole thing has made me rethink a LOT of things in my life and looking into better insurance is going to be a top priority. My insurance was always fine when I was healthy. And even when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure a few years ago, access to my primary care doctor is very good. But I learned through this that access to a specialist is not good and I really had no choice in who I went to.

I am concerned that I will have trouble switching because I have a preexisting health condition (high blood pressure) but its very well controlled with medication and with my increased excercise its getting even better.

I need to look into it.

I edited the post with my initial question because it also contained a question about the insurance and I felt I was too nosy. But unfortunately, it is so common and so obvious... It is scary that a 41-year old divorced mother has to wait for weeks for an incredibly important test just because of insurance. It is saddening to compare our situation with that in England, as Rosetta had mentioned in her post, or in Canada, or in Germany. I wish you do get a better insurance, asscherisme.
