Getting sick since last Sat. My flu has been seem to shown different symptoms everyday. I originally went to the doctor for sore throat on Sat. then stuffy nose on Sun. and coughing today... I wouldn't say I am getting better or worse, I believe I am just having different symptoms every morning. Furthermore, I have a very important business related party has to attend this Friday and I need to be presentably well. I am currently taking description from Doc. while drinking tea and having chinken soup relligiously; so far, my flu has yet conquered. Does anyone have any tip on how to fast relief flu? I am willing to try anything....pretty please? Thank you in advance.
BTW, has anyone ever feel the cough sryup is always taste worse than the one one has tried before? For examply, four years ago, I thought Robitussin tasted worst untill I had NyQuil, then Theraful warming relief won the title this year..... just thought to share my cough sryup experience.... *cough* *cough*...

Time is the only thing that can heal a virus. My head flu lasted 8 days. My symptoms also changed daily. It sucks and I actually lost my voice COMPLETELY for 2 days. My stomach flu lasted 6 days which was probably worse. Hope you feel better than Friday. Liquids will help you in the long run. Advil will help with the pain.

Kaori.. I have the flu too! Did your doctor give you Tamiflu at the beginning? Supposedly if you take it within the firt 48 hours it keeps the flu from getting worse. Other than that, I have been drinking sprite, gatorade, and water. I have had to postpone a final because I seriously cannot get out of bed. Feel better!

Kaori, there''s a cold virus going around in SoCal right now that sounds very similar in both the variety and "every morning something new" progression; however, it definitely wasn''t the flu. Both my fiance and I had it last week. Anyhow, if your doc prescribed something, I''d hate to recommend a different drug without knowing what you''re already on for fear of drug interaction; you need to speak to your doc.

If it helps, we just complemented the chicken soup-coldeeze-fluids-vitC-sleep standards with the OTC medicines that matched our ever-changing symptoms. Let me walk to the medicine cabinet... okay, I started with "Cloroseptic Spray" for sore throat on day 1, moved on to "Theraflu Cold and Sore throat" when I developed nasal congestion and runny nose on day 2, switched over to "Tylenol Cough and Sore Throat (night)" when the head cold disappeared and had progressed to late-night coughing around day 4, then moved lastly to "Robitussin Head and Chest Congestion" just in the mornings on day 5 and 6. We didn''t overlap drugs.

I hope you feel better soon!

Sounds like a really bad cold virus as opposed to influenza. I''ve had influenza twice - its sooooooo not a cold and I''ve just had what you''ve got. I was miserable too.

And worse, there''s really nothing you can take for a cold, you have to let it run its course and the only way to do that is plenty of rest, lots of water, hot soup and vitamin C. Have honey and lemon tea or lemon and ginger as it will sooth your throat. Take paracetemol (or the US equivalent) to reduce your temperature but the key is keep hydrated and rest, rest, rest.

And make sure you have a window open to get the air cirulating around you and the germs out!

And, once you''re on the mend take some echinacea tablets to prevent picking up another cold.

hope you feel better soon.

I just got over my flu.. I took MucinexDM to get rid of the cough and congestion and it worked like a charm. I took Excederin Extra Strength for the fever and pain I was getting, and it helped a lot.

You can see if your doctor will give you a B12 shot for a little extra energy boost. I've been taking them at home for the last month and a half and they really do give me some extra energy.

ETA: There's a greek restaurant here called Niko Niko's and they make the BEST Lemon Chicken Avgolemono Soup and it seems to be the only thing I want when I'm sick. I'll try to find you a good recipe online.

This is the most similar recipe to the one at their restaurant. Using a rotisserie chicken isn''t as tasty as using a whole chicken to make your broth, but it''s definitely easier when you''re sick. There are a ton of recipes online but this one is the closest to the one at the restaurant, except they don''t use eggs. The lemon helps so much, I feel 100x better after I get this soup.

Yield
6 servings (serving size: about 1 1/2 cups)
Ingredients
1 (2 1/4-pound) whole rotisserie chicken
9 cups chicken broth
2 cups chopped carrot
2 cups chopped onion
3/4 cup chopped celery
1 teaspoon salt
1 thyme sprig
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup sliced green onions or leeks
3 garlic cloves, minced
3/4 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 3 lemons)
2 large eggs
1/2 cup chopped fresh dill
Preparation

Remove and discard skin from rotisserie chicken. Remove meat from bones, reserving bones. Chop meat; cover and chill until ready to use.

Combine chicken bones, water, and next 5 ingredients (through thyme sprig) in a large Dutch oven; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 1 hour. Strain stock through a sieve into a large bowl; discard solids.

Heat olive oil in pan over medium-high heat. Add green onions and garlic; sauté 1 minute. Add strained stock, and bring to a boil. Stir in rice; reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes or until rice is tender. Stir in reserved chopped chicken.

Combine lemon juice and eggs in a medium bowl, stirring well with a whisk. Gradually add 1 cup hot soup to egg mixture, stirring constantly with a whisk. Gradually add egg mixture to pan, stirring constantly. Cook over medium heat until slightly thick (about 2 minutes), stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in dill.

I''m really sick too-and it is complete and total yuck. And of course the house now looks a tiny bit like the day after Woodstock and we have guests coming soon. SuperFunTimes. You fellow sickies have my massive sympathies. Hack hack sniffle sniffle. Feel better soon.

Those things help me too and aspirin when I feel it coming on. I do not get the flu often, maybe 2x in the past 10 years. I get the flu shot and I know it doesn't cover all strains of the flu but I am very good about getting that shot each year. Hope you feel better soon!

, and all around general unpleasantness. Boo-hiss. This is my second bout; I got a redo courtesy of my DH, who couldn''t keep his germs to himself after he finally succumbed to his "Office Crud". Am taking a Mucinex-type pill, drowing myself with hot tea, and hoping I can fend off any secondary infection requiring a doctor''s care.

I feel your pain. As for help and fast cures, none are available. But definitely get one of the mucus (what a lovely word) relief pills at the store. It''ll help.

I am feeling a lot better today-still tired plus swamped with a million and one things to do now

but still feeling much better overall.
How are the rest of the sickie crew feeling?

TONS of fluids. Hot chicken soup, oj, water, tea. Just drink a lot. Also cold ease, airborne and zicam are supposed to be good. Not sure if they help speed recovery once you are already sick, I think they might. They might work best though before you get really sick, like if you know you will be in a crowded place or something. Antibiotics only help with bacterial infections, and also, coughs can linger. I hope you feel better!
