Through the ringer??? Helium, Sarin, ASET Idealscope etc??? This is in regard to an earlier post I read where someone almost bought a ring at Tiffany but went with GOG instead. I looked at a nice 2ct Tiffany, and could not tell the difference between an H and an E...albeit until I looked at the pricetag. THe Tiffany is VERY pricey, but I love the setting, and I know she will too. Two sales reps at Tiffany had never even heard of 8star or Isee2, and both claimed to have extensive yrs in dealing the diamond floor at Tiffany in NYC. When Istarted mentioning angles etc they looked at me a little funny, however they were very nice. I went on a Monday and looked at about 8 rings. I do not care too much about the Tiffany name, though I know it will appreciate in the future, but would I be sacrificing in the quality of the stone???

Thanks

Scott

from what people have said on here in the past, it seems that there are varying qualities of tiffany stones. apparently you CAN find a pretty cherry one if you know what to look for...but it sounds like they also have their share of mediocre cuts as well. if you are really interested in shopping with Tiff, get an idealscope and arm yourself with numbers you want to look for, and have them bring some stones in for you. i think they can get sarins as well on their stones. good luck!!

This is a question that has been debated here ad infinitum. Many, many people here would say that you are indeed sacrificing on the quality of the stone AND paying an enormous mark-up to do so. I think most here would agree that Tiffany diamonds are beautiful, but most would also agree that you could get a better stone elsewhere for significantly less money. If the Tiffany name or the Tiffany setting has great meaning to you and/or your fiancee, then there is no substitute. Period. If your primary concern is getting the best cut diamond out there, then I would say go elsewhere. There are plenty of very good replicas of the Tiffany setting if it''s the look you''re after. Or, with all the money you''re saving on the stone, you can invest in a really fine designer or custom mounting. Or, alternatively, you could take the money you''re saving and invest that in an even bigger diamond than you would have been able to afford at Tiffany''s. The bottom line is, there are no bad choices here. You will likely end up with a gorgeous stone whether you buy from Tiffany''s or a vendor who deals in superideal cut stones. It''s all about figuring out your priorities and deciding where to plunk down your money. Good luck!

Also, I''m not sure about it appreciating in the future. If you mean how expensive it will be to insure it for replacement value, then yes, it will absolutely appreciate. But if you''re thinking the price you could sell it for will appreciate, you should do some searches here on diamond re-sale values. You loose a lot of money if you try to re-sell a diamond.

If you''re thinking you''ll want to get a bigger/better/different one some day, then the best thing to do is go with a vendor who has a life time trade up policy.

Personally, if I didn''t care about the Tiffany brand name, then I would buy the biggest, nicest stone I could find from a Pricescope vendor (if you''re in NY perhaps you could go to Good Old Gold), and then with the money I saved, put it into a killer setting.

Good luck.

Best,
LizzyD
