Antique sterling locket

I popped into a pawn shop yesterday, and came out with this!
It's a sterling locket with British hallmarks.
Birmingham, 1883, .925 sterling.
I believe it would've hung on a fancy book chain at one time. I put it on an antique cut steel chain. Its huge, at 3" long.

also ive never seen cut steel before
well apart from via the internet and the vaults of the Swedish royal family
tonight - i mean when convineant can you please light some candles and tell me how it sparkles
this everdently sparkles like crazy without a diamond in sight

A book chain is made of folded links that resemble books. I'm sure that this locket was once attached to a book chain.


And the cut steel chain might have once been part of a chatelaine, a bunch of ladies tools that was pinned on the waistband

not in anyway conpairing @stracci2000 's lovelly locket with a cocoa tin lid but her rapper comment reminded me of this - although open all hours was before rappers - must have beena throw back to disco so this was particulay funny at the times

well not at all what i exspected and much more pretty
i thought like a watch chain might have been as a book mark (i know that wouldnt work very good )
but those chatelaine thingies look like the origional good housekeeping version of the Swiss army knife
