One issue is that your diamond is out of round. I mean, and issue for settings not and issue for the diamond -- I happen to like out of round stones It means you may not be able to use a stock mount like a Gabriel and co mount anyways.

You know what I would do? I just thought of this. I would 100% call up Mark at ERD and have him make you what you want. I have been so impressed with all the antique style rings he has made lately, there is one in SMTB now that is amazing. Here are some others. I called and asked for quoted on some of these fancier styles and they were in the $2k - $3k range. In my opinon, at this moment, ERD is putting out the best looking CAD, antique style mounts we see on PS. Charmypoo is very particular and also thinks ERD is the best. If I was getting a setting made for an antique stone ther are who I would have chosen.

Mico - I inquired to see if Dimend Scaasi could make another one similar to that.
Dreamer- I will send him an email today or tomorrow... thanks for the suggestion! I think the Gabriel might work as far as fitting the out-of-roundness... It seems out of round in a uniform way, like I really cant even tell most ways I look at it. I suspect it would be just a matter of setting it right. Not sure honestly- when I go to see it, Im going to bring the stone to see if it would actually fit right, how the color looks alongside their melee, all that stuff.

how is the search going? I haven't been able to find any other rings with "swags" - and lurking ebay is difficult because most sellers don't call it that.

i've had SOME luck when searching "edwardian ring"

anyone else know what style these "underhalo's" are referred to as?

My ring has them and the antique shop I'm purchasing from called them "swags" as well. Mine is from the 1920's to 1930's so maybe searching for art deco might help? I tend to agree with Dreamer tho; The Royal Collection is amazing and they may be able to do it within budget.

TXJewel - YOU have em TOO?! Just another person to be jealous of.. let me add it to the list I will add art deco to the possibilities - a lot of the stuff Ive seen with em says its Edwardian ..but can't hurt. We will see if ERD gets back to me in the next day or two with at least a ballpark.

If they do have some options for me, I will then have a dilemma as far as how long Im willing to wait to have it done! My SO thinks this whole thing is ridiculous. Every once in a while he asks why we cant just roll into Jareds and get something there for real cheap. I tell him its bc I'll die if we do. Death is the reason why we can't go to Jared. ("But those people in the commercial seem to think its pretty nice??")

LJL, I'm of absolutely no help, but I wanted to let you know that this line made me snort at my desk and I've been giggling sporadically ever since.

... he threatens me with the Jared line SOMEWHAT sarcastically, but he really doesnt get it. I just dont include him in the process for the most part. I know not to bring him into it until its time to pay. Before we bought the stone, I think he literally watched 15 seconds of the video. As long as the price is ok, then hes fine w it - nevermind that our friends/family/everyone will think he spent considerable time working on this - it will be funny when someone asks where we got it and he just points to me and says, hellifiknow!

Now I just have to find something that is within the price range that I'm happy with. And I also really want it by ~3-3.5 weeks from now bc we will be seeing a lot of friends and family around that time and it will be a good opportunity to show it, answer the question of if we've set a date (uh, no? 2014?), all that crap.
Going to call the local jeweler and see whats up with the Gabriel.....

Good news and bad news.

Dimend Scaasi said they can make basically a cross between Kennedy's setting and their own http://www.dimendscaasi.com/engagement/Gemstones/pages/MRG2313A.asp (without the level w the rubies)

Bad news - It would take AT LEAST four weeks. They said their CAD person is out this week and then it will be three weeks from when that person gets back in.... and it would be at the top of the budget: around 2500+


Not sure what to do. I really wanted to have the ring sooner than that... SIGH

Honestly, I do not know if the Gabriel setting will even compare to what you want. While they have "victorian" settings, they are all pretty trendy looking. The swags can be a little over the top. Lots of scrolls and heart patterns. I like Gabriel a lot, but I think you want something more unique than a stock setting.

You should just go for the custom made setting. 4-6 weeks is not that bad for custom work. Also, I know people suggested ERD, but I don't think any of their settings look Edwardian to me. They just look like replicated HW and Tiffany settings. They did do a modified Legacy that was pretty but I haven't seen anything else that has the uniqueness you want. The closest you will get is to have it custom made or to use Leigh Jay Nacht.

Recently a couple of PSers have used Green Lake Jewelry in Seattle and SNQueens in LA...they seem to be making some unique settings.

I understand what you mean mandasand. I think the only reason that the Gabriel or similar could work for me is that I have sort of 2 dueling ideas in my head: totally antique or simply classic. All the "modern" settings I have looked at are 6 prong settings with pave and some small embellishment. All the antique settings I like are somewhat "out there" as far as the normal world is concerned. At this point, Im just not sure if I want to wait 4-6 weeks. I know that PSers always say to wait, to take the time bc it will be worth it and all of this kind of stuff -but I KNOW (and my SO knows) that I will be upgrading this ring at some point in the future, probably ~5 years from now. Im thinking that maybe the big custom project is better saved for then and that maybe a simple, more classic (read: socially unobjectionable) setting might be better while we are younger. I've been sitting on this stone for ~10 days now and Ive been looking at settings for as long as I can remember... Im impatient. And I dont know if I want to make my "ideal" setting now just to have to make another one in a different size in 5 years Argggg am I going crazy?

I understand. As long as you will be happy with something simple for now, I think that's a great idea. I think you're in a good position. I think if I hold my breath for the AVC my honey and I looked at with an antique setting from LJN, I'll die! The wait is killing me! If I had a stone sitting there waiting, I'd want it on my finger ASAP!

I tried this setting on at a local jeweler and it was so delicate and beautiful. their price was $1700

It is not a true swag but has a slight halo effect.

I think the quality ERD produces is much better than any of those others.

CALL and ask to speak to Mark and tell him you are a PSer. Heck, tell him PS told you to call him! Drop the name and get the answers. I think e-mails seem too unmotivated sometimes.

Sorry for being MIA - we were away for the last couple days. Well, I got tired of waiting to make a decision. On Wednesday, I sent the stone back to GOG to have them set it in a moderately "classic" Beverley K setting. Ive only seen it a couple of times (only once with a round) but I have always loved it and I figured it might be best to go "unobjectionable" since we do not plan for this to be my forever ring. I will attach a couple pics of it - maybe some of you will remember it from like a year ago plus when a guy put a ~2.5c Solasfera in it. I remember thinking it was just the greatest. Of course, the bad part is that we still have to wait like 4 weeks. But fortunately, everything is out of my hands now....except that USPS registered mail didnt arrive on time and who knows where the stone is... PERF!

Dreamer - at least now I know for my "forever" ring who will be good. I will def keep ERD and Dimend in mind.. though of course by the time I upgrade, I assume we will be doing so because we have enough money and then maybe I will splurge and go handmade?!

ariel - I WANTED that setting but no one could get it for me. One of the local jewelers actually told me that Gabriel doesnt make those settings for samples or something and that you just have to order them sight-unseen. ...scary!!

mandasand - I am SO over waiting. I think now its a little better since Im not waiting on my own dumb self to make a choice, Im waiting for OTHER people. But its still frustrating... no more sneaking upstairs to stare at my pretty little diamond anymore!

Very pretty! I am a little concerned about how thin the connection between the head and the shank is?? But BK is known for their quality and it should be ok
