Hey everyone,
Now that I have my stone, I have been thinking of how to set it. I have a couple of old standby setting ideas that will look good, but I am sort of hankering for something else.

Stone is 1.88 L/SI1 - 7.57mm x 7.8mm

My IDEAL - - is Kennedy's setting seen here (hope she doesnt mind my link) https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/vintage-platinum-oec-ring-circa-1928.167423/

I really havent seen much with that semi-subtle sort of underhalo. I recently discovered (with Mico's help) that the embellishments around the sides are called "swags".....

...Any help would be great. I wont be going custom, because I just wont spend that much money. Budget is ~2k, possibly more if its perfect, real/used antiques are totally good. Thanks!!

Wish I could help. Just wanted to say that I also adore Kennedy's ring! I really hope you find one that you love as much!

hahah thanks Rosebloom - I feel like its a pretty impossible search!

I've already emailed them....They can't go higher than the listed sizes :wink2: but thanks milton!

I have a gorgeous antique setting that I am considering selling. Still debating. Might be something that would work for you. You can find pics under my username in my thread about my BGD re-cut. It's stunning but I'm having trouble adjusting to the weight of the platinum.

The Daniel K rosebud ring has that feature, but the 'inspired by' settings are very pricy, plus it's much more modern. If I see anything I'll let you know.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think the closest one posted was the last one milton posted - the one with rubies.. it looks like kennedy's but like, add the rubies and the extra space that comes with the rubies. I will look into dimend scassi some more and see if theres anything else to find.

mandasand- I will look at that thread (I think Ive seen it before) - it has a lot of Singlestone settings - I think including Coati's original which I love- but their more complex settings are 4-5k.... too too much. The people at LJN actually suggested that other setting you suggested, and its not BAD but i really want diamonds to be in that bottom swag part.

Im going to look some more into this Daniel K... it almost seems like a modernized version which might not be bad, right?

Thanks again, keep the options coming!

Daniel K is a billion dollars. Seriously, the settings alone were running $8k like 5 years ago.

ohhh ok, yea I meant the cheaper one - David Klass :D Does he have a website, I can't find anything?

What is your budget for a setting?

That style is complex and special and I would not recreate it unless I was willing to pony up for a master goldsmith to recreate it for me.

Or I would look for a true antique mount since they don't really make 'em like they used to.

Budget is about 2k... could possibly swing 3k. I was thinking this was basically a long shot request - going to be hard to find anything thats close in a stock setting and custom would be super expensive. Looking to see if anyone can find a real antique thats close.

David Klass is a jeweler in L.A. He has an ebay store, too. You can email at [email protected] He's very responsive. Since he's made a setting similar to the Daniel K Rosebud, I think it's worth contacting him.

Otherwise, I doubt you're likely to find custom work within your price point.

And you have a pretty large stone for a true antique setting. It may be out there, but looking for that particular style in a nearly 8mm stone size, it just seems likely that you'd wait a very long time.

He seems like he could be a good option. Though to be honest, custom sort of scares me ...because then I have control over the situation to some extent....scary.

Thanks again!

oooohhhh..... :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:
(to both of the above)

ARGGGGGGGGG

Any updates from the last few days?

I found David Klass' Yelp page, and it includes his phone number and address. His website doesn't work.
http://www.yelp.com/biz/david-klass-wholesale-jewelry-los-angeles.

There's also a whole forum thread dedicated to his work on a particularly banned forum that I can't mention ;)) that I'm sure you can pull up on your own :twirl:

and what about PoppySeed and Amcor Designs? Contact them too! See what both parties can quote you :appl:

I agree with Dreamer that splurging for a nice setting is ideal, but you've mentioned wanting to eventually upgrade your centerstone a few times, so maybe that should wait until your 'forever' e-ring :naughty:

Too bad that JbEG consignment ring got taken, but congrats purplesparklies! I was drooling over that setting since it got posted!

I went by a couple local stores to look for stuff- and one will be calling in a Gabriel setting but I'm not sure how that will turn out. I also contacted JbEG again to see if they have anything coming in soon, I saw a good one on their smugmug that I dont recall seeing listed (so maybe new) but not sure if it would fit my stone. I'll be pleased if she comes back with some options.

Honestly, the thought of going custom is daunting....even if it is "based" on something almost entirely. I think I would really like to exhaust every other option in the world - if Im going to do custom, I want to DO it and like madelise said, I think that will be for the future when I have my huge honkin lifetime stone.... maybe for our 5 year anniversary  I know this is very anti-PS but I would rather settle for an ok stock setting than try to push my patience and my SO's/my wallets to make it "perfect". But first, trying to see if there are any true antiques, any vintage-inspired type settings that already exist out there.

I think you should look for a genuine antique. ETA: You have JBEG on it. Watch that ebay seller I linked, they list a tonne of mounts.

Did you look into the Dimend Scaasi settings? The one that is shown with the Asscher in it is within your price point, the one with rubies might be promising. I'm curious to hear if they could modify that one and at what price point, honestly.

I just inquired about the one with the rubies - because I think thats really more the look Im going for... basically that minus the rubys/that level of the ring (which should make it smaller/cheaper, no?)

JbEG said the setting I liked was sold (another one, not the scalloped one)...so just waiting on the local store to tell me if the Gabriel & Co setting is in so I can look at it. This really is a first world problem...so exhausting..
