Hi guys! I am in need of PS opinions and maybe even a little help rock shopping and photoshopping. My Mom inherited this very different antique ring from her Aunt that passed on earlier this year. You will notice that it is missing a center stone... Long story, but in short... Aunt gave me a ''diamond'' necklace that turned outto be fake, my Mom felt so bad that she took the diamond out of the ring and had a necklace makde for me. Here is the previous link with the necklace.
I would like to have this ring done with a sapphire for a Christmas present, or if I need to I will give it to her after bc of time... We both agree that we think a sapphire (blue) would be pretty, but I want to make sure... Can anyone help me with some photoshop??? The diamond that was in it and now in my necklace is a round .79, so I need something similar to fit the setting. I was kinda thinging though that a cushion would look great in it...

Give me your thoughts!!!

You can see here that hach row (halo almost) steps up...

The top is platinum and the bottom is yellow gold... kinda different. My Aunt wore this ring everyday!!! I think it''s a cocktail ring, but to each their own... It is very prefft in person!

Straight on shot... Hopefully this one can be photoshopped!

Cool ring! Here''s a stab at the head on shot:

Lovely! I think if you''re going to do a sapphire in the middle, and since the setting is quite small, you can splurge on a gorgeous cornflower blue sapphire, like the one Selkie shopped in your photo...I love that combo! So vintage and so gorgeous!

Oh sure, MAKE me go browse the NSC website some more!

I don''t think I''d do a cushion, since the setting itself is so square, unless it was a very squared one...let''s see....

That particular stone is from NSC but it''s 1.36 cts, so won''t work, I just shrank the photo.

Oh, hold the phone...there are two GORGEOUS square cushions on NSC. So if the diamond was .79, then the prongs are probably 6mm apart. So, roughly a 1ct sapphire is what we are looking for. But since it''s likely to be cut deeper, the prongs would most likely have to be modified. Are you ok with that?

Anyway, here''s candidate 1:

All right, I take it back about the cushion, I think it would look great with one!

Aaand...one more sapphire, from Simplysapphires.com. It''s heated, I think, so more reasonably priced.

1.48 cushion

I don''t know why the photos on that site are always so blurry or hazy. Anyway, I''ll stop hogging this thread now. I just get so excited by other people''s sapphire projects. Vicarious thrills, I guess!

No way!!! Hog away! I would love different opinions/views, but I will take what I can get! You have an amazing eye! I loe that cushion in the ring... I think that is kinda what I pictured! Somehow it flatters the shape of the "halos".... I really love it... Do you think something that big will really fit into the setting????

You might get some more takers by posting a thread with a link to this one in the colored stones forum, I think it gets more action.

I really love the way that looks, too! Very art deco.

About the size, the one I photoshopped in was the .97 one. Keep in mind that sapphires are denser, and therefore smaller than diamonds of the same weight and shape. The diameter on it was about 5.5mm, which would be fine (maybe even small) for the width of the prongs. The bigger question, though, is the depth of the stone and whether a ''big belly'' on a deeply cut stone will still fit OK in the setting. You could take the setting to a local jeweler and ask whether the prongs could be modified to fit the sapphire you choose.

Yes, I think this picture looks good!, and I like it better than the round one.

Wow, that would look stunning with a cushion sapphire!
