Antique ring? Any idea how old this is? Sliver onyx

This was found in my grandfathers things the onyx part looks like a roman soldier with helmet on the sides it has ships and whales with then whale tals being bent over to hold the onyx in no idea how old this thing is or if it Cary's any value I am keeping it regardless just curios its interesting to me I cleaned it up but the ships seem to stay a good color it's weird Amy input would be great. Yours looks like a very pretty genuine Antique one. Does it have any markings on the inside of the band that might identify the metal, and the origin of it? If it is English it might have a stamp that identifies the date as well.

It has not markings but the ships and whales seem to be gold and the ring it's self silver

By the way thanks for the reply!! There is some history behind this ring it belonged to a notorious gangster in San Antonio Tx at one time.
