My DH has given the go ahead to start shopping for my forever diamond. :appl: We are both leaning toward a 1.5-2ct AC or OMC. I had fallen in love with a couple....I think...

this one from jbEG
http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.com/Jewelry/Loose-Diamonds/155ct-Loose-Antique-Cut/19181072_nGc6pZ#!i=1495069680&k=tRgTwjs

and this one from OWD
http://oldworlddiamonds.com/detail.php?ID=700&SHAPE=C

however I was doing some more looking around today and I found these three...

http://oldworlddiamonds.com/detail.php?ID=983&SHAPE=C

http://oldworlddiamonds.com/detail.php?ID=1710&SHAPE=C

All three have a larger spread with less ct weight than the first two I posted. Ok, I know that they are also much shallower than the first two stones, but I'm wondering just how much impact that will have on an antique cut. Will it make the stones look dark as it does with a modern round? Will it greatly reduce the light preformance? I feel in love with the antique cuts firstly because of the faceting patterns and secondly because of the big bold flashes of color, and would NOT be willing to sacrafice the performance.

I"ve browsed around PS and haven't had much luck finding any definitive answers. I reread this thread https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/gia-cushion-plots-demystified-somewhat-with-pics.63323/ and was left with more questions than answers. I suppose what I really need is an Antique Cuts for Dummies handbook and a personal shopper. :? There just doesn't seem to be any hard and fast answers to what ideal is in this particular cut?

Since this will be my forever ring, I really want to make sure that every aspect is exactly what I'm hoping and dreaming of. However if I can have a beautiful bright and lively stone at a smaller ct weight and larger spread and save thousands to put toward an amazing Van Craeynest setting....it would appear a no brainer. But I also realize that if it seems to good to be true than it probably is. I live in a very rural area and don't have many options of viewing these stones in person, so short of ordering the stones and viewing them first hand, it would appear I'm out of luck.

I know that there are many many beautiful AC and OMC here at PS and I'm wondering of any of you lucky ladies have a stone with a shallow depth such as the ones I listed, or if you have seen them personally and could give me your impression.

Wow, how exciting!!! I would call Adam and tell him what you are looking for and see what he comes up with. I hear pics aren't so good on Old World so see what he can find for you based on your likes? You never know what he might find!! That stone you linked to Erica Grace is gorgeous!!! Maybe someone else can answer your other questions.

Thanks Skippy, and your right, the pics aren't great and there are some that look interesting but don't have an accompanying pic at all. The jbEG is still more first choice, I breathe a sigh of relief each time I log on and see that it's still there. I'm so afraid that if I don't pull the trigger when I fall I in love, that it could take forever to find something to fall in love with again! ;(

I'm so excited for you! Ditto Skippy, I would definitely call Adam and see what he has for you. I love the cushion you posted from JBEG...don't think it gets much better than that. I also understand your desire to make sure you get it exactly right. Have you considered calling Ari at SS? Or ID Jewelery? Also, you can even ask JBEG to look for more stones for you. Just a couple of other suggestions for you.

the reason I say call Adam is because I know someone who said the pic of their stone was crappy but when the stone came in it was to die for so you can't go by pics alone with Old World. yay, can't wait to see what you find!

SparklyOEC: The only hesitation I have with the jbEG diamond is the size. I feel like a bit of a size queen saying so :o , but, If it's going to be my forever diamond, I'm wondering if under a 7mm spread is going to be enough. I definitely don't plan on adding a halo, I adore them, but DH unfortunately despises them. :nono: But we have looked a couple setting from SS that we both like and that I think will enhance the appearance of the stone. And I've come to the conclusion from experiences that as important as selecting the stone, is having an idea of what you will be setting it into.

Thanks for the ID Jewelery tip, I actually hadn't even thought of them. I'll take a look right now.

Skippy: That is sooo encouraging! :appl: I had emailed Adam about one of the stones awhile back and he was super friendly and helpful. I feel bad because I sorta jumped the gun and wasn't totally ready to commit  , so I'm rather embarassed now that I need to contact him again and hope that he won't feel that I'm wasting his time, especially if we end up purchasing from another vendor. On the other hand, I'm sure that this happens all the time in his field.

On a brighter note, I will be sending off an email to jbEG this morning and discussing the 1.55 beauty! It does look substantial in the pics and video so maybe I will feel that its large enough. I'm sure that it will seem much much larger than the 1.01 asscher that I'm currently sporting. ;)

Thanks so much for your input ladies! It's much appreciated!

First, I agree with you that the *whole package*, including the setting is very important. Second, if you call Yeukitiel, give him your budget and tell him what you're looking for, I'm sure he can help you even if you don't see anything on his website. I'm sooo excited to see what you get regardless of who you get it from.
