Well I hit another pawn shop today. I really should stay out of those places....
I found this .53 OEC that was calling my name. She has some color, so I'm gonna go ahead and call her "cape". Nobody uses that term anymore. I don't know for sure if she is, but why not? I rescued her from obscurity, so she deserves a respectable name!
And she's in a rose gold setting, probably 1900-1930 or so.
She has a broken prong, so I gotta get that fixed.

This diamond is kinda squarish, with some wonky facets. She's a little bit Old Miner, a little bit Old European, somewhere in between. The color looks a little different this morning.
She was in my budget, so I grabbed her.
DH thinks I'm crazy! I told him the price was too good to pass up.

@stracci2000 wow, what a find! I love it, look at that yummy high crown and small table  I love the setting too, it's a beautiful piece!

Great find! :appl:

Wow oh wow, that is an amazing find! Like seriously finding an old cut stone in my parts is near impossible.

And in rose gold too :kiss2:. Doesn't get any better than that!

She is beautiful, and I'm glad that you'll fix her up. :appl:

I like the teeny-tiny delicate prongs!

Are they all straight and secure? Some of the photos make them look like a couple are twisted!

Yeah, they are worn down bad. It looks like they were re-tipped at one time and are now worn down again. And one is cracked off at the girdle.

Why-oh-why do people wear a ring until the prongs wear away???
I don't get that.
I guess back in the day, you put that diamond on and it didn't come off till you were dead.:eek2:

Its probably gonna cost me $20 per prong to have it fixed. This cost will be half of what I paid for the ring.
I'm trying to figure out how to fix them myself. I don't have a laser welder, and I mostly work in silver, but I might be able to pull it off!

It’s really pretty. When I visited OWD with Missy, we were shown a slightly squarish OEC and it was really lovely, one of my favourites.

HI:

Cool score!! Love the old setting.

cheers--Sharon

I bet that was such a thrill!
Meeting @missy AND visiting OWD to look at OECs and OMCs----OMG!:lol-2::P2
And acquiring Bea/Bella must've been a dream come true!

After consulting my abacus I can confirm that your ring was a complete bargain.
I'm sure an abacus was involved when that diamond was cut and sold the first time around! Also in use were sundials and leeches.:lol-2:

@OoohShiny, I took the ring to a jeweler today who wanted $150 to do the repairs! Ouch!
The second place I went to, a repair shop, only wanted $75! Yay!
You gotta shop around, that's for sure.

I wish we had pawn shops here in New Jersey. The best pawn shop I've been in, (and I haven't been in many), was Dick's Pawn Shop in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. They only have about 20% Walmart quality.

Jersey! have you not been to Atlantic City? I’ve never been inside any but pawn shops line the street a block from the boardwalk as a result of the casinos.

It was total bling heaven, and lovely to meet Missy & her DH. Bella becoming mine really has been a dream come true.

Gorgeous! The nails don't look too shabby either ;-)

Ha! My nails need re-done right now! I have a business meeting to attend tomorrow and I'll be wearing my new sparkly!
Not that anyone at the meeting will notice or care..........
but if someone asks, they're gonna get an education on old cuts!

I find people admire more than they let on sometimes and honestly that ring is just too good, the sparkle, the rose gold, I can't believe you found this at a pawn shop!

Steph, you started this, with your .40 Old Miner in the coin shop!
I was just following your lead!:lol-2::P2:mrgreen2:
Ps, How's the new Kitty?

It's so pretty and looks so delicate on your finger. I love it!

@stracci2000, I will totally take the blame for starting this if it means we get to see all your pretty pawn shop finds :Up_to_something2:

Dexter is good, he has worms though so he has to be isolated from the other pets, I have him in a large dog crate in the livingroom so he can get used to all the sights and smells of the house. Worms....

At least he doesn't have fleas, oh and my older son can't remember his name and DH keeps calling him she because he forgets it's a boy kitty.
One bright spot, school starts tomorrow

Oh wow @stracci2000, it looks gorgeous!!! LOVE it on your hand! :appl:
