If you decide to go this route - make sure you see their past rehab gallery.
If you don’t like the way it’s rehabbed - what it looks like - that’s an even bigger letdown than just more $.

It may look similar to what it is now - it may look in the same style/age but new, it may look decidedly more modern style.
Will there be proper prongs/tabs/beads or drips of solder?

Just be on the same page as the jeweler.

Gosh I’ve not thought of any of that. Re the drips or proper prongs- should one be much more expensive than the other? How much and what’s difference?

I’m thinking maybe I find another ring that is in better shape and set these into it?

Yes do this and definitely look at past rehab jobs as previously suggested. Also share how you want the rehab as a whole to look. It’s good to set those expectations up front rather than be disappointed after the fact.

That quote seems low given the work needed to me. I think it would need to be fully rebuilt to undue the previous poor job and redo it properly.
