We all know Fred Cuellar as the guy who invented terms like 'bonded diamonds' and 'warped diamonds' in order to sell his own and downtalk other diamonds. PS has been a major factor in countering these lies.

Yesterday, I was informed about a new FC-invention: full term rough. Summarized, he claims that the performance of a diamond differs, depending on how long it took to form. You can read the full story here: http://www.diamondcuttersintl.com/the-vivid-white-diamond/

This is probably an all-time-low in the stories one can make up in order to possibly sell a few diamonds. Please be informed that this new Cuellar-story is a lot of nonsense.

For the more scientific minds on this board, I would love for you to study this claim, and explain the BS.

Live long,

This is too fun!

"91% x 100 =9100% light return! 100% goes in; 9100% comes out"

Wow he has discovered a way to break the laws of physics.
I'm going to power my whole house with the light output of a 1ct diamond and a radio shack solar cell even at night!!!!
Maybe that lady on tv was right and crystals are magic!!!!!
:appl: :appl: :appl:

Not sure I understand...Because the "rough" has been in the ground longer it is better? Did he just make this up because I cannot find this anywhere...A friend of mine suggested that I go there and she told me that they are all accredited gemologists. I did some research since I am looking to make a BIG purchase and found that he is the only one that is an accredited gemologist. Isn't that fraud to say you are something and actually no?

Danger Will Robinson. 'Accredited Gemologist' is not a broadly accepted term. There's an 'Accredited Gemologists Association', and I suppose the members can use that title if they want, and there are probably other ways to get the name but basically it means nothing. I'm not slamming AGA here, it's a fine group and I'm proud to be a long standing member, but it's not a title to waive about to impress folks with what a great expert you are.

www.accreditedgemologists.org

Inventing a new and completely untestable gemological property is an interesting way to add 'value'. I wonder if it'll work? I'm reminded of a report of one of the Hollywood celebrities who paid a big premium for a diamond that had been found on a particularly lucky day and in a particularly lucky location. :geek:

He's not even trying to say that "full term rough" yields better diamonds because it has a different crystalline structure, or higher density, or anything... he's saying it just yields better diamonds because... it... just... does.

Hucksterism at its best.

:naughty:  I may be an old guy, but I really like the somewhat "short term", young rough.....Its all personal preference. OMG :angryfire:

What the heck is Full Term Rough???????????????????

hmmm if a hen lays a golden egg... what would lay a full term diamond egg....
A croc-o-dile???

::SNORT::
He really is a class A idiot. The stuff he comes up with *is* impressive, if only in terms of how awful it smells!
Last I checked ~66 is limiting in perfect world with perfect polish and no absorption or any of those other pesky little problems - obviously my planet is inferior to Mr. Cuellar's ::)

HI:

Does he know someone in the Courts of L'Aquila? I think they share information.

cheers--Sharon

Not only is this new trick absolute nonsense, I also find it offensive in the sense that it refers to pregnancy. It is as if he implies that a baby, born prematurely, is a human of lower quality.

Did anyone check out the video? It has some Diamcalc-graphics, of which I have no idea how these were created/manufactured.

Live long,

Interesting that you mentioned this. I thought that perhaps I was being overly sensitive since my son was a premature. My blood pressure spiked a bit when I read that paragraph, but I'm a mamma bear by nature!

That was a very eye opening read
-GIA, EGL, IGI, AGS all soft grade their stones
-Diamonds below a "hard graded" VS2 are not chosen for his magical diamonds (I heard if you plant them they will grow a vine with a giant and treasure at the top".
-The definition of hard graded baffles me "the vendor guarantees that no accredited gemologist will ever grade the diamond lower than the assigned grade or you get your money back" clarity grading are subjective so I dont see how this would hold up.

-It must have been magic that made the picture of the vivid white diamond look so photoshopped even though it was completely  natural

:geek: what I cannot understand is why he chose to demonstrate how much better his "full term" diamonds are with light bulbs rather than the actual diamonds them selves, oh wait it because there was no difference.

Well if you are the King of Lies. You do it big, you do it bold, and you are shameless. It fits.

9100% light return! thats not a diamond thats a weapon of mass destruction. shield your eyes!!

If you want another laugh courtesy of Mr Cuellar.....

Well he seems to lack an understanding of the infamous tulip bubble.

Does anyone have any support for his claim that certain combinations of the Cs get an 85% resale value? Resale values are all over the place of course but I would think that the venue (private sale to friend vs. sale at pawn shop) would be far more important.

There are 2 interesting ideas here:

1) Vivid White Diamond
2) Amplified light return

Stupid people fall for anything and there are plenty of stupid people.

It's very difficult to take a Diamond person that also hands out relationship advise on their own website seriously. If you want some great laughs read his advise to men and women re relationships this guy thinks he is a budding guru.....

I think we are missing the point here!

400,000,000 years is NOTHING! The minimum time period must be at least 800,000,000 years or I`m not buying!

Fred's way off on this data. Many diamonds are billions of years old. They don't take billions or even millions of years to form--they just form in molten magma, which hasn't been real near the surface of the earth in a long time. Except for volcanoes. Which are small. Fortunately. Too small to make a decent diamond mine.

Not being a geologist, just a woman with a stubborn thirst for knowledge and an interest in this stuff, I have not been able to find a definitive explanation for the difference between macles (Fred's "preemie" diamonds) and octahedrons. It's not an optical difference. That's stupid. He shows a bunch of balls in a pile and claims it's a macle. Actually it's a lump of graphite. I suspect it's just the conditions of crystal formation that made it easier for growth to occur in one direction or the other.

Hilarious
