So yesterday I came upon this. Can’t quite decide if it’s special enough to be an antique or if it’s just retro. What appeals to me is the massive amount of white bling. Lol. But it’s not very special Like an Edwardian or Art Deco but still. The price doesn’t help as they are asking 425 bc one diamond has a chip. They are calling it a one carat so idk what that makes the 3 center stones. Any ideas? That looks vintage, maybe ‘50s or ‘60s?

Vintage 40's-50's is my guess. Are those OEC's? I think that's a really good price for it!

ETA: I also think it is special and unique in a good way, it has a nice flow to it. These three stones can sometimes look too much but this one is really nicely done.

That’s the thing. They aren’t oec’s! But the price is very seductive for the finger coverage.

What are they? Transitionals? They don't look super splintery like a round brilliant but I'm on my phone so hard to tell.

Tbh, I think they are just modern rounds. That’s what threw me off about the whole era thing.

How about the smaller diamonds, are they single cuts or round brilliants?

It was sooo hard to tell that I’m beginning to doubt myself now Bc the lighting is always super awesome. Now I want to go back and see it but it’s about an hour away.

Yeah I know about lighting, heck I couldn't even remember if the rose cut I saw at the pawn shop was foil backed or not lol!

Idk, I still think it's pretty, gives you a lot of coverage, even if it isn't as old, it still looks well done

Wowzer! That’s like for free! I don’t want to enable but...
Looks awesome on you and finger coverage galore. Is the chip small?
If I was in your shoes I would buy and take it to an appraiser. Looks transitional but cannot evaluate the chip or cut on the phone.

If those are transitionals that is an amazing deal because they tend to be priced higher than other cuts due to the short amount of time they were made.

Oh wow @nala, I love this  And I agree with Sunstorm, that price is crazy good. They're almost giving it away! Is the chip bad? I'm not seeing anything in the pics. The finger coverage is great and it looks so pretty on your hand.

It is a small chip on the edge of the center stone.

Oh wow. Good to know. Guess I’m
Gonna make a trip after all. Lol

Ty! Ok. You all have enabled me to make one more trip up there to check it out again! I will keep you posted!

Well worth making that trip. Who doesn’t love deals like this? Ah you know a little nick on old cuts, I wear them too, love them and cherish them. Really curious about this. Whatever it is, really pretty and really does look vintage.

Look like either transitional or late OECs for the larger stones, single cuts for the smaller ones.

I'd buy it!

Is the chip on the main stone in the upper left hand corner near a prong (last photo)?

Agree. @nala do they look like OEC's to you? The transitionals tend to look more round brilliant but less splintery and with a very small culet.

It is so so pretty though, did they negotiate further down on the price, not that it matters because at the price they were asking it was an excellent deal.

K. So i ended up coming home with it and kept telling my hubby how glad I was you all enabled me! Seriously. Idk how I almost let this one pass me by!!! I love it sooo much!

@nala, it's beautiful!!:kiss2: I'm far from an expert but those diamonds look like early MBs or late OECs to me...I see culets LOL. And yeah, I don't get too fussed over chips and dings on these older pieces. The piece is so sparkly I'm sure it's not even noticeable.

Ty! Yessss sooo sparkly! I have to say that I think they are transitionals and they measured out to be at least .30 carats each!!! The prongs are sooo worm down that they have started encroaching on the diamonds. Lol. I will have to see if it’s worth repairing the prongs when i size it down. In the meantime I’m wearing her stacked and loving her imperfections!

Just FYI because I also had this wrong. Transitionals do have culets but they are very very small in comparison to OEC's. In the past I thought the absence of a culet was a definite mark of transitional cutting but that is not true.
