Another Asscher for my Odyssey

While not perfect it does appear to have potential. asetP
 
I'm not keen on it myself - a lot of 'off' facets around the centre at the same time, rather than a sweep across the stone from side to side as it rotates.

These are tricky to shop for - there are not a lot of really good ones!
 
I'd order the one you have on hold and look at it in person.
 
Its not perfect, I want to see a video for the emerald cut you posted in the other thread.

k Thanks! Im posting here the first video. I think may be a bad video and the stone doesn't look particularly sparkly. Maybe it's not? It does look nice and clear and deep tho..... I have asked him to do a better video or send us some better pics, but for now, take a look at this...

Im wondering whether the GOG stone is the best thus far?

ok the video was helpful both of those are potential winners.
2.26 EC cut.
1: higher crown height
2: in person recommendation by someone looking at both of them.
3: better ASET
4: slightly better at some things I can see in the video.

It is hard to compare the diamonds in the different videos because the lighting and camera work is so different.
btw,
A bunch of the ones your looking at where cut by the same cutter.
 
thanks Karl, does the fact that it has a keel and therefore is not a square emerald negatively affect the value in any way?

No, it would be classified as a square emerald like the others by GIA.
GIA goes by the l/w ratio to determine if its se or ec.
I don't see a link to that report but you can confirm if you have it.

Interesting it is inscribed GRAFF.
It is an old report from 2005 so it is most likely a trade in.
An updated report or a trip to an appraiser would be a good idea.
An updated report could take weeks.
Value is the same as any other well cut square emerald as long as there are no changes in its condition since the report.

Ye sthe vendor is going to have it re examined for a new GIA report. Problem is as u say it could take weeks. I dont mind waiting except that amything else that I have on hold will hav eto be released. I dont think they can hold them for that long. Do you know a good appraiser in the NY area?maybe I could hav ethem send it out to an appraiser for me? Then well know if its any good?

Where are you located some vendors will send it to an appraiser near you and you can see it while its being inspected?
Most vendors will only hold a stone 3 days.

I live in Los Angeles, but I will be in the UK for the next few weeks/months. Depending on when they can sed it, maybe London would be the best bet.

I do. GOG takes superior videos without a doubt, but when I look at the step-patterns and "blinks" I see more darkness in the GOG stone than I do in the IDJ one.

London wont work for sending it to an appraiser for viewing.
Timing is a problem.
If you have time overnight to you to view it, send it back and they update the gia report and make the setting while your away?

Weve decided to ask them to update GIA first at vendors expense. Then ill send to appraisor in NY. Then will send to me. Also more videos coming :)

Thank you so much! Were getting the GIA update first at vendors expense, then appraisal....nail biting stuff! Note to self: DO NOT BITE NAILS
 
Why the re GIA and then an appraiser? If the report comes back like the original, then you buy is and get the new report, right? And if it comes back (much) worse than existing report, you can decline or renegotiate? And if you buy, you get the updated report?

Maybe I'm missing something, but curious.

I think the thinking is dont go to the expense of an appraiser until we know that the stone actually is what they say it is. There is no GIA inscription on the stone.
I thought ot seemed sensible, unless Im missing something. Highly possaible
 
See if they can have the gia number inscribed on it while its at gia?
