Hello all,

This forum was a great help when I purchased my wife’s ER about 6 years ago. I purchased a round solitaire 1.26 J SI1 eye clean which was the best I could comfortably afford at the time. Initially my idea was to uprade the diamond for our 10 year anniversary. However, with the prices of LGD I rather go ahead and do it now. My wife has no problem with LGD’s over natural diamonds. I purchased LGD 2ct studs for her birthday and she loved them!

So, using James Allen’s lifetime upgrade, I want to go ahead and upgrade for our 5 year anniversary. I paid close to $6k for the natural diamond so I need to pay 2X that for the new stone. I’m looking to spend in the 12-15K range for a LGD, round solitaire, F or better over 2.1ct. It needs to be at James Allen though.

I was wondering if lgd’s are the same as natural where I should use the HCA tool and ask for the reports as well?

If so, I will do so and then post my preferred diamonds so all you wonderful people can comment on them.

Thanks ina advance!

Oh, how exciting! What a lovely gift, and how thrilling to be able to do it so soon. :D

Yes, all the diamond cut principles apply to lab grown diamonds as they do to earth mined. Check the HCA scores, and get those lab reports!

Sound like a wonderful avenue to pursue!

Here are some possibilities to get you started. If you like any of them, be sure to put them on hold ASAP.

Wow! Thank you both for the super fast help! I am getting a lot of spreads as very good. Should i shoot for excellent as well?

A lot of TIC stones will rate as “very good” for spread because they do not have the shallow crowns required for max spread (as in a 60/60 stone)

I wouldn't put too much focus on the spread rating when all of the proportions and angles fall into ideal ranges, especially at these carat weights.

This one's also quite nice.

Ooo what a lucky wife.

:)

So I’ve narrowed them down to the following stones Thanks DejaWiz and Kim N). Should I request anything else from JA? Ideal scope, video, etc?

I love the portions on the 2nd 2.60 diamond you posted. The images look great too- very nice symmetry!

They are all amazing, so I'd go with the one that offers the biggest spread (9.07mm vs 8.82mm or smaller): 2.76ct.
Two and three-quarter carats has a nice ring to it (pun intended, heh).

Ideal-Scope is already provided, and I'd say that it has an excellent showing.

So I might have to drop the budget a bit so I can combine this with a birthday present of 2ct diamond studs from LB. Hoping to stay in the 11-12.5K range.

There are about 42 stones available in that price range. The two below caught my eye. What do you think? Or would you suggest other options in the new price range? If the 2.75ct stone is by far much better quality than the alternatives, I'll find a way to swing it! Thanks again!

I like the 2.37 the best of out of these options. You've already picked out the best three in this price range, so I don't have any other suggestions!

The 2.31 appears to have some symmetry precision issues (arrow shaft lengths are very skewed), so I suggest you scratch that one off the list.

Here are a couple more that you may want to consider:

thank you. Will compare both with the 2.37!

Here are a couple more that you may want to consider:

the 2.65 looks great and has HCA of 1. In you opinion, would the 2.75ct at 2K a significant improvement compared to this. To me an increase from 1.26 J to either stone should be a huge wow factor.

Either would be a HUGE increase from a 1.26 that's around 7.0mm.
Below is a comparison for a 2.60ct with a 8.79mm spread vs a 1.26ct with a 7.0mm spread, an increase of around 57% surface area.
The 2.65ct would be an increase of around 61% surface area.
The 2.76ct would be an increase of around 66% surface area.
(copy/paste links at bottom for all three comparing to the 1.26ct at 7mm)
