Anniversary Gift, which ring?

I want to give my wife a nice ring for our 24th wedding anniversary, thinking of a solo princess cut or round, probably bet. .7 to .8. Her finger is kinda petite. Will a 3 stone ring be more appropriate?
BTW, I'm new here on this forum and have much to learn with regards to diamonds, would like to know your suggestions on the type of diamond and ring. Thanks.
 
There are no rules as to what is appropriate - this is strictly between you and your wife!

Are you looking for something that she would wear on her left ring finger, and if so would it be in addition to her engagement ring or as a replacement ?
 
Can you tell us more about what she likes? Does she have a specific type of jewelry style? What types of clothes does she wear? Do you want this to be very blingy? Everyday wear or for special occasions? Please tell us more.
 
Something she could wear everyday and as well as special occasions.
Is a solitary stone better? She had a Princess cut ring before but sold it a few years ago. Presently, she has a round cut but the color is yellowish and the cut is not that good. I would like to give her a Diamond with a very good cut and clarity. Is the cut more important than color? I would settle for a smaller carat weight but very brilliant stone.

I think this is a great place to look because you can change around the clarity and color and cut and see what you can get. Also, 3 stone would definitely be more expensive. Maybe get her a bigger center stone now and for another anniversary add the other stones? Just a suggestion...

I would go with one of these sparklers. No one else she knows will have a stone like this August Vintage Round!

Yes, hearts and arrows typically mean it's an ideal cut stone which means that it's going to sparkle the best and most that it can! Since you have a specific budget that you want to stay in you don't want to spend it all just on the stone. The nice thing too about james allen is that they have a magnifying glass so you can drag it over the picture of the diamond to see inclusions better. Obviously, this is your choice and whatever you get I'm sure will be gorgeous where ever it's from. Good luck with your search!! :appl:

The H&A lets you know the diamond has good symmetry. You'll also want to check the cut angles - the right cut angles will maximize the light return (AKA sparkle). The HCA tool is good for that: https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

It sounds like you're focusing on solitaires - which means that the diamond will be the star. In addition to watching the video ariel mentioned :wink2: you might ask the admins to move your thread to the "rocky talky" forum... that's where you'll get the most help honing in on the perfect stone.

(BTW I agree with ariel that the August Vintage Round is worth checking out - many PS'ers have fallen in love with this unique new cut!)

Will clarity affect the Ideal cut of a diamond? If a diamond has SI1 clarity but ideal cut. Is it better than VVS1 and just very good Cut?
Which is better Ideal or excellent cut? My apologies in asking, still new to diamonds. Should Cut grade quality be the first priority in choosing a diamond?
 
This diamond does actually fluoresce blue, which will also make it appear whiter than its "H" grade.

The "SI1" is a clarity rating and has nothing to do with the cut. On the other hand, the excellent light return of a well-cut diamond can help mask some inclusions. That said, this stone graded "SI1" - most of us would not be able to pick out the inclusions at normal viewing distance, and many of us would not be able to pick out the inclusions at all without magnification. If you're interested in this stone, call VGD and ask whether it's eye-clean. Also... you might consider reserving it so no one else buys it while you consider your options.

BTW it's entirely possible that there are better bargains out there - I started with the BGD blue line because I know they've already been screened for excellence of cut etc., and because BGD has a very good reputation here for top-knotch service. If you're willing to do some of that screening yourself, you'll probably be able to get slightly more stone for your money.

The Ring setting is very nice. How do I use the idealscope for the Blue diamond? With regards to the cut angles on this diamond, will it preform well under the light? Don't know how to use the HCA yet but I will try it later. I think the size for its price is good. Thanks.
 
Not to confuse you, but another option would be to get one of the August Vintage cuts that are proprietary to Good Old Gold. GOG combined the larger facets that are the norm for older stones, cut without some of our modern technology, with modern cutting technique and understanding of diamond optics. The resulting August Vintage Cushions (AVC) and somewhat newer August Vintage Rounds (AVR) have been very popular with PSers... and many think that they look better in the warmer, less white tones. Dig into Show Me the Bling! just a bit, and you'll find lots of pictures of AVs and lots of praise for them. An AV would make for a very unique ring for your wife.

Thank you.The AV diamonds look nice but not sure if my wife will like the cut. I think she might like the H&A cut, i have to get some thoughts from her discreetly so as not to spoil the surprise.
 
Well, if you are ready to buy I will mention that WhiteFlash has some diamonds that are incorrectly priced due to computer error and the prices have not all been corrected at this point. They are honoring the prices on their site until the corrections are made. They also have top quality hearts and arrows stones in their A Cut Above line and they have a .77 H VS2 diamond at $2964 (pricescope member/wire discount). This stone is a clarity grade higher and also would be priced higher because of not having fluorescence. (I like fluorescence, but one without it is generally priced higher).

Thanks, they have nice selections, I like the Platinum Halo setting, makes the .70 stone look bigger with all the smaller stones surrounding it.
 
Looking at the Princess and Round on a ring side by side, which stone will appear bigger when it is set on a ring?
If they are of the same carat weight and color, will the round diamond look bigger than the Princess?
