What was the world''s longest engagement?

Next time your fiancée starts to bug you about the wedding date you can comfort her by telling her about Octavio Guillen and Adriana Martinez who hold the record for the world''s longest engagemant and quite possibly, the world''s coldest feet.

Octavio Guillen and Adriana Martinez were engaged in Mexico in 1902 but kept putting the wedding off over and over again.

After 67 years, in June 1969, Octavio Guillen must has run out of excuses and the world''s longest engagement ended with their vows.

They were both 15 years old when they were engaged and 82 years old on their wedding day.

that''s pretty funny. but doesn''t make me feel too much better! Is anyone else out there starting to feel the wear and tear of waiting, and waiting, and waiting. I know a lot of us exuse it as "boy soon", but it''s pretty unfair. I''ve been w/my bf 3 yrs and he''s told me he''s working on the next step and it''s been a couple months since that conversation. in the meantime, we basically exist like a married couple, and i just hate being introduced as his "girlfriend"..it feels so juvenile and not serious. I do a lot of "wifely" duties (voluntarily! things like groceries, laundry, visiting his family constantly) along with my high stress job and sometimes it''s hard to feel motivated. Sometimes, i keep it together, but other times I''m so frustrated, i think about it all day! does anyone else feel the same this monday morning? does anyone else find it hard to understand why it takes a couple of months to pull a proposal together if the money''s there? i just don''t think i can stomach the idea of going through the holiday season being the girlfriend with no progress again..

Janine, I went through the same thing. It turns out FI was waiting for the perfect moment. He asked me at the beach during the first night of vacation. Perhaps your BF is waiting for that same perfect moment.

Oh, I know it doesn''t help, and it wasn''t meant to try and make anyone not feel anxious. I just came across it, and thought it was amazing.

I feel the same way. I hate the label "girlfriend", when I''m doing those wifey duties too.

((((HUGS))))

Did it say how long they lived *afterwards*? I mean ... 82 was pretty old in the SIXTIES!!!

I bet his aging bachelor friends were like, "Yup, gettin hitched killed him!"

I haven''t looked around on the net to see if there was any more info. That''s all I found on that particular website longestlists.com or something like that.

I BEEEEEGGGGGGGG you girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don''t let strm see this thread - giggle - but I think I should let my folks read it - giggle :} Everyone - keep your chins up - things will all work out for all of us soon :}

I think doing all of the wifely duties does not help to speed things along. I would take my time proposing if my GF was basically my wife but without the expense and work of the e-ring and wedding. Save something for marriage.
