I am toying with something similar, in lab/MMD pears, as interchangeable drops for my tiny huggies.

Can't justify it at the mo, as I already have a pair of mined diamond fully paved teardrops made about 2 years ago that I wear occasionally.

I had something similar when I was young, the hoops were larger though and did not hug my earlobes as such. And they were in yellow gold. When I was old enough to do as I please with jewellery pieces given to me, I re-purposed the diamonds as the side stones for a 3-stone ring with a heart cut Ruby.
