Dv, I would go low. You said she''s not a jewelry girl. Setting it low may keep her from banging it everytime she does something until she gets used to wearing it. Just my .02. BTW I am so glad you went with the Sleek lines.

Thanks Shay. There will, of course, be pictures of the ring once I get it. And after Christmas will come the handshots and proposal story!

Thanks again everyone,
Eban

I was also wondering what questions I should ask about the type of platinum I''m getting? It sounds like I should make sure that it''s at least "Platinum 950," but are there other things I need to ask about?

Cheers,
Eban

I love the look of the vatche rc, but I personally wanted to make sure my eventual wedding band will fit flush, which precluded any of the vatche settings. You might want to find out if she has a preference in that regard. I know I''d be annoyed by a gap and extra space between my rings. Most people don''t mind, but I definitely have a strong preference for one over the other.
Good luck! Let us know.

What about the Vatche rings causes there to be a space between it and any other bands?

I think the cross under the diamond on the vatche may prevent another band to sit next to it perfectly flush. the one you chose should be fine with a wedding band. if there is a gap it will be very, very small.

Whiteflash uses Plat 950 BTW. That is with ruthenium.

Ahhhhhhhh! I''m still torn! I know I said I had decided on the Sleek Lines, but every time I go to purchase it I stop myself. I really do like the Sleek Lines band, how it''s thinner, and how it tapers at the top. But, I really love the RC head (is this the correct term) part of the setting, and how it''s 6-prongs. The Sleek Lines head with its 4-prongs just doesn''t seem as delicate to me. On the other hand, and on, and on, and on...

What it comes down to is this: What will my gf like better. The answer? I really don''t know. You can see how my life is complicated. Just because *I* like one ring better than the other doesn''t really mean anything. I know, maybe this will help me:

Sleek Lines Pro''s:
1. Slimmer band
2. Platinum
3. Cheaper
4. Probably shows off .8 ct diamond better

Royal Crown Pro''s:
1. Love the head design
2. 6-prong is more secure
3. Looks to be set lower

Sleek Lines Con''s:
1. "Clunky" looking head design (to me anyway)
2. 4-prong can lose diamond if one prong breaks

Royal Crown Con''s:
1. White gold
2. Won''t show off diamond as well as SL
3. Thicker band
4. More expensive

So as you can see if I went purely by pro''s and con''s the SL would win. But something about the RC just speaks to me. I wish I knew which would speak to my girl.

So torn,
Eban

Both are elegant and classic.... I think RC is "romantic" while SL is "contemporary;" ex: Romantic music vs. Contemporary.

Does she have a favorite composer?

if Baroque or Romantic
then RC

if Classical or Contemporary
then SL

I don''t think I''ve ever heard her listening to classical music, so I don''t know which composers she likes. She does listen to a wide variety of music, but most of it is from her lifetime as far as I know.

That's what we call the "Ben Franklin Close" in the sales world. Maybe if you simplified it into just pros it would help. Something like this:

Sleek Lines Pro's:
1. Slimmer band
2. Platinum (not white gold)
3. Cheaper
4. Probably shows off .8 ct diamond better

Royal Crown Pro's:
1. Love the head design (not as clunky)
2. 6-prong is more secure (better than 4)
3. Looks to be set lower
SL has more pros, but I'm with you on the Royal Crown. Decisions Decisions Decisions

What is your GF like?

If she's girly, or traditional, or romantic, or artistic...I would go with the Royal Crown

If she's sporty, or modern, or unconventional, or streamlined...I would go with the sleek lines
