I have been admiring this diamond https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...rat-g-color-si2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-9836548 for a while now, and I'm *thisclose* to being ready to buy (it's on hold!), but I am in deep analysis paralysis about how exactly to set it! It's clearly a blue nuance stone, though I don't want to highlight its blueness, and I am really psyched about the nifty lab-grown-looking inclusion.

I am debating among these 3 settings:
https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...ezel-set-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-83060 in 14k white gold
https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...-bezel-set-diamond-engagement-ring-item-53652 in platinum
https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...tapered-half-bezel-engagement-ring-item-63654 in platinum

Here are the things I have questions about:
-- Do you think platinum or white gold would be better at minimizing the blue?
-- What about a full vs a semi-bezel? Does the blue get worse when the diamond is dirty, arguing for a more open setting that's easier to clean? The thinnest setting, which I'd get in 14k WG, is probably easiest to clean; I know the semi-bezel is gonna be hardest to clean!

Thanks in advance for your advice! :)

I am very intrigued by blue nuance LGDs and will be following the progress of your adventure closely.

Nothing to add, other than I will be a casual observer from the sidelines.

Speaking from my own experience of recently getting a blue nuanced LGD set in white gold with naturally mined diamond side stone melee, the only time the LGD appears blue is when it's exposed to UV light, so for example, outside in the sun it does cast a light blue tone compared to the side stones, but I think it's kinda cool. Overcast days, or inside, all the diamonds appear the same unless I try really, really hard to see the blue, and only sometimes.

Initially this was bothering me, but after much hyper analyzing in different lighting environments, I realized it was because the natural pear melee side stones were not performing as expected, they always looked dull and lifeless and no where near a color F as the appraisal had noted. Once these were switched out, the blue is less noticeable.

So going back to your question, my advice would be to go with platinum over white gold. As the rhodium wears away, the white gold will appear more yellow and emphasize the blueness of the stone (IMO) vs. platinum which should become greyer over time. No, the blue doesn't appear worse when it's dirty, at least mine doesn't. And no clue about bezel vs. no bezel re: blue nuance, but for sure the easier to clean the diamond, the more sparkle you'll see.

I'll post some pics of mine in different lighting, most of the pictures where taken when I was trying to capture poor pear melee performance so that's why a lot of them are the ring at an angle.

New pear melee, full sun, and I barely see any blue. The pic where I'm holding the glove, I think that's just the sky reflecting back TBH, and the picture where I'm holding the ring against the window (pic 103102) is one where I think you see true blue nuance.

@aisak901 that is SUPER helpful -- thank you for sharing the photos of your beautiful ring (seriously, it is stunning, and what a glorious size!!), and I went to look at your other thread too!! That's a great point that as the rhodium wears away (and I'm terrible about getting my rings re-plated) it might bring out the blue even more. Leaning towards the heavier bezel in platinum now!!

Thank you, I'm really enjoying it now that I'm happy with all the stones, we aren't engaged yet so I only get to wear it in secret and having this community to chat things through with and read others experiences has really helped me, so happy to help out where I can.

Someone else on PS had posted a stronger blue nuance round solitaire in yellow gold, and it is stunning!! Really made me consider resetting mine in yellow gold as a solitaire in the future maybe.

Not much to add other than that I don't think your stone has very strong blue nuance so I think you're safe with most settings, other than halos with super white bright melee maybe?

Ordered the 14k WG slender bezel setting -- decided it wasn't worth $500 more to get platinum, on the off chance it would make a small difference in the perception of the blue. Thanks, everyone!

Awesome, can't wait to see it!!
