Hello hello, long time lurker, first time poster. I've finally just bought my very first sparkly, I nudged my husband as much as I could to get some yay or nay's out of him along the way, and we both fell in love with older cuts because of this forum. Surprisingly I also fell in love with warmer vs whiter stones too! So it's been a rollercoaster of this-or-that and learning as much as I can. I just pulled the trigger on the 2.57 that was listed on jbeg that was from a PS'er (can't remember her name here now!) and I'm in absolute love. Pics first (the only ones I have are from jbeg website I hope that's ok to post a few)!
I hope those work and don't show up too big or anything. I'm ecstatic! I took her to the jewellers today and am awaiting appraisal for the insurance company, I get her back on Wednesday and am needing to decide what setting to put her in. The jeweller and I are on the same page, we both thing 1 of 2 ways (though he prefers #2 because he's a blingy bling lover).
Option #1: I've always been in love with the minimal Tiffany/replica solitaire setting (I'm not concerned with brand names, just a style) and would love it in simple white gold to match my minimalist white gold comfort fit wedding band (that I've grown attached to since it matches my husbands and it's got a tiny little maple leaf engraved on the inside!) Here's a photo, I would want just a no diamond shank, and really love the 8 prong but will settle for 6.
Option #2: Plain white gold band with a halo of white diamonds, with the center diamond set in either yellow gold prongs or a yellow gold cup and yg prongs. Name of the game is to accentuate the warmth (this one is an EGL N). (Like this shown but no diamonds on the band/shank)
I'm conflicted because I can see the pros for both, and some days I feel blingy and flashy, and other days I feel minimalist and toned down. I'm not a big jewellery person, (though I'm sure I could learn to be!) and I'm looking for something that I can wear daily as my e-ring. Oh I guess I should mention I'm a size 3.75!
This sparkly faces up really white, a lot more so than I thought from the photos, and in some lighting it looks ivory/creamy, and from the side it shows it's warmth but it's more a gingerale than a yellowy (to me at least).
This being my first diamond other than melee in pendants or a couple other rings, and the first old cut I've ever seen in person, I'm just not sure how to set it to bring out it's best. So I thought it's time to register and to get some opinions from the pros, I've seen you all be so incredibly helpful and friendly and who doesn't like discussing new projects! Thanks in advance
