Amethyst help/opinion?

I received an amethyst today- I think it is a keeper....
But I noticed something that I was not expecting.
Totally different look of color related to the lighting source.
This photo (credit to AllisonD) shows exactly what I see to a tee-

I am not attaching my photos, because I am not 100% sure I want to keep, because I have no plans on ever setting it......
Is this typical to amethyst, and I have just never noticed?

Perfectly normal, and I actually prefer amethyst that isn't always purple but reddish and bluish.

i knew some amethysts were "flat" like the ones i have usually seen, but some show other colors - the red and blue flash..
but wasn't expecting it due to different light source.

I think that's a beautiful amethyst and not flat at all. Congrats on your new bauble!
